MINUTES <br /> SAN LEANDRO CITY COUNCIL MEETING <br /> MAY 17, 1993 <br /> The City Council of the City of San Leandro met in regular session in the City <br /> Council Chamber of the City Hall on the above date at 8:00 p.m. , Mayor Karp <br /> presiding. <br /> 1. CALL TO ORDER <br /> 2. PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE TO THE FLAG <br /> 3. ROLL CALL <br /> PRESENT: Council Members Corbett, Faria, Kerr, Myers, Perry, Polvorosa; <br /> Mayor Karp <br /> ABSENT: None <br /> 4. PRESENTATIONS <br /> Mayor Karp noted the City will be taking citizens on a bus to Sacramento on <br /> Wednesday, May 19, 1993. He said citizens interested in participating <br /> should contact Kathy Ornelas. He said they will be meeting with our <br /> Assemblyman, a representative from the Governor's Office, and our Senator. <br /> He said this will be an opportunity to talk to the people who have a great <br /> deal to do with the budget. <br /> 5. PUBLIC COMMENTS Public Comments are limited to 3 minutes per person. <br /> A. Norbert Castro, 13914 Tahiti Road, Food Drive Coordinator for the <br /> National Association of Letter Carriers, said on May 15 the people of <br /> San Leandro donated more than 12-1/2 tons of non-perishable food items <br /> to the needy. He said this was a program established by the U. S. <br /> Postal Service. He said the letter carriers know what the families on <br /> their routes need and, since they deliver everywhere, they were in the <br /> best position to collect donations. He thanked the San Leandro Times <br /> for help in advertising the program and local businesses for donations <br /> of space for flyers and food bins. He also thanked Mayor Karp, members <br /> of Branch 214 of the National Association of Letter Carriers of San <br /> Leandro, and all of the volunteers who worked on the program. <br /> Mayor Karp said he had spoken to the Post Master about the food drive. <br /> He said, being new, the Post Master wasn't aware of the Davis Street <br /> Community Center or the Shelter for Women and Children. He said the <br /> Postal Carriers bent over backwards to collect 12-1/2 tons of food. He <br /> congratulated everyone involved. <br />
