CITY MANAGER AND CITY ATTORNEY REPORTS AND COMMENTS <br /> <br />City Manager Jermanis responded to Mr. Perez's comments, describing the Airport Noise <br />Insulation Program and noting that the Program does not provide for the insulation of walls. <br /> <br />Mr. Jermanis reported that, in response to concerns about fireworks expressed by the Council <br />and residents, the City will be taking a more aggressive approach to fireworks prevention this <br />Fourth of July. A program has been developed in coordination with the Police and Fire <br />Departments and the Public Information Officer. An important component of the program is <br />informing the public that fireworks are not permitted in San Leandro. Information has been <br />submitted to the local newspapers including an article by Chief Kitchen, notices were sent <br />home with all school children, an article will appear in the City Newsletter and signs will be <br />posted at 9 different locations at the entrances to the City. Mr. J ermanis displayed one of the <br />signs, which were created by the Public Works Department. He also noted that a public <br />notice will be displayed on the freeway reader board. During the Fourth of July weekend, <br />Police and Fire will be prepared for the additional calls, and Police will confiscate fireworks <br />and be prepared to issue citations. Mr. Jermanis stated that the City is doing its best to get the <br />word out, the Police Department will do its best to enforce the fireworks ban and the Fire <br />Department will do its best to respond to possible incidents caused by fireworks. He asked <br />for cooperation from the community to abide by the law and not engage in the use of illegal <br />fireworks. <br /> <br />Councilmember Nardine commented that staff has gone above and beyond in its plan to <br />address the fireworks issue. She expressed hope that at the next meeting, staff can provide a <br />report on the amount of fireworks confiscated, how many citations were issued and how many <br />injuries and arrests resulted from illegal fireworks activity. <br /> <br />7. AMENDMENT OF CONSENT CALENDAR <br /> <br />City Councilmembers or staff have an opportunity at this time to request that an item be <br />removed from the Consent Calendar for the presentation of a staff report or other special <br />consideration. Members of the Public may request the opportunity to address the City <br />Council regarding items remaining on the Consent Calendar by filling out a speaker card and <br />submitting it to the City Clerk prior to the calling of Item 7, Amendment of Consent <br />Calendar. Items remaining on the Consent Calendar will be considered for approval under <br />one motion. <br /> <br />Consent Calendar was amended to remove Item 8.R. Item will be considered under <br />Item 9. Items Removed from Consent Calendar. <br />
