CITY MANAGER AND CITY ATTORNEY REPORTS AND COMMENTS

City Manager Jermanis acknowledged the efforts of the Public Works and Police
Departments to reduce the use of fireworks during the 4th of July holiday. He reported that
signs warning that the use of fireworks in San Leandro is prohibited were created by Public
Works and posted at various locations throughout the City. The Police Department received
over 400 calls on July 4, many of which were fireworks-related. Although no citations were
issued, large amounts of fireworks were confiscated. Mr. Jermanis noted that for all the
City's efforts to get the word out to the community, the warnings went largely unheeded.
