<br />MINUTES Page 9 <br />City of San Leandro City Council and San Leandro Redevelopment Agency Joint Meeting-December 5, 2005 <br /> <br />Councilmember Santos commented regarding the information provided on the <br />flood hazard due to dam failure and asked if the information :from the Multi- <br />Hazard Mitigation Plan could be sent to the Homeowners Associations. <br /> <br />12. CITY COUNCIL COMMENTS <br /> <br />Councilmember Starosciak commented on the San Leandro High School Football team's <br />outstanding efforts in the North Coast Section Championships and asked if the City Council <br />will be recognizing them in some way. <br /> <br />Councilmember Santos commented that it is nice to be back in a warm climate after spending <br />10 days in Germany. <br /> <br />Mayor Young announced that the Lighted Boat Parade will be held this Saturday evening, and <br />Councilmember Starosciak will be representing the Mayor's Office and judge the event. She <br />distributed a flyer regarding the Christmas at the Casa Peralta event. <br /> <br />Mayor Young commented that she and Vice Mayor Badger attended the NCS Championship <br />game between the San Leandro Pirates and the De La Salle High School Spartans on Saturday <br />at McAfee Coliseum. It was a close and well-played game, and Mayor Young commented <br />favorably on the players' sportsmanship. On behalf of the San Leandro Unified School <br />District Board of Trustees, United Parents, and the San Leandro City Council, Mayor Young <br />sent letters and baskets of chocolate to the Spartans team, the Pirates team, and the <br />announcing staff at the Coliseum. She commented that the Pirates team will be honored at a <br />future Council meeting. <br /> <br />Mayor Young gave kudos to Recreation and Human Services Director Carolyn Knudtson and <br />her staff for the most exciting Tree Lighting Ceremony yet. She estimated 1,000 people <br />attended the ceremony at the City Hall Plaza. Mayor Young thanked local businesswoman <br />Karen Wolfer for raising the issue of reinstating the custom of the Tree lighting, and for <br />collecting approximately $800 in donations toward the cost of the tree. Mayor Young also <br />thanked Public Works for assembling the tree, and Barbara Keenan and the staff at Pelton <br />Center for their extraordinary job on the Miracle on East 14th Street. <br /> <br />Mayor Young commented that tonight's meeting would be adjourned in memory of the <br />following individuals: Don Bissell, who founded Bissell and Karn Civil Engineers and <br />worked extensively with the City; Dorothy May Kant Faulkner, the wife of former Vice <br />Mayor Al Kant; Clayton W. "Bruno" Brunsell, an attorney and good friend of Mayor Young; <br />and Mimi Wilson, a former school board member and a long-time community leader. <br /> <br />
