<br />These rules shall provide for, but not be limited to, tool inventories, audit of tool <br />inventories, restrictions on removal of tools from the automotive shop and requirements for <br />the proper safeguarding of tools by the employees, which includes securement and lock-up <br />of tools at the end of each working period. <br /> <br />For the period of this Memorandum of Understanding, employees regularly assigned to the <br />Public Works Equipment Section, who are required to provide and use their own tools shall <br />be reimbursed by the City for broken, worn out, and/or technologically obsolete tools, to a <br />maximum of three hundred and fifty-five ($355.00) per fiscal year. Such reimbursement <br />shall be paid once each fiscal year only upon submission of acceptable justification and <br />receipts to the Public Works Services Director. <br /> <br />Section 36. Catastrophic Illness Leave <br /> <br />The objective of this section is to complement the City's illness protection program for <br />employees by improving health benefits in instances of catastrophic illness, and thereby aid <br />employees to do better work. <br /> <br />An employee holding a full-time position with permanent status who has completed two (2) <br />full years of continuous service shall be eligible for the catastrophic illness leave benefit <br />upon receiving a prior favorable recommendation therefore from the department head <br />concerned and only upon the specific approval of the City Manager. To be eligible for <br />leave under this section, such employee must be unable to work at his/her position or any <br />less demanding position to which he/she may be assigned by the department head <br />concerned, and must have exhausted all of his/her accumulated sick leave, vacation, <br />holiday, overtime and all other accumulated leave or pay benefits. <br /> <br />Upon receiving prior approval, an employee shall be allowed catastrophic leave up to a <br />total of one-half (lh) of the accumulated sick leave the employee had when the catastrophic <br />illness occurred to a maximum catastrophic leave of fifty (50) work days; an employee who <br />does not have twenty (20) days' accumulated sick leave at the time the catastrophic illness <br />occurs may be permitted up to ten (10) working days' catastrophic leave. Leave under this <br />section shall become effective after all other paid leave is exhausted. During any period of <br />catastrophic illness leave, the employee shall receive compensation at the rate of sixty <br />percent (60%) of his /her regular base pay. <br /> <br />A minimum of one (1) year must elapse following the termination of the catastrophic <br />illness leave before an employee may be permitted further catastrophic illness leave. <br />However, if subsequent catastrophic illness occurs within a year following the termination <br />of the previous catastrophic illness leave, an employee may be permitted to use whatever <br />accumulated paid leave he/she has and then whatever catastrophic illness leave he/she was <br />eligible for but did not use. <br /> <br />The same principles concerning the administration of the sick leave benefit shall be used <br />for this benefit where applicable. <br /> <br />Section 37.
