<br />WHEREAS, the practices contained in the Alameda County Residential Green Building <br />Guidelines, U.S. Green Building Council's LEEDTM Rating Systems, and the Bay-Friendly <br />Landscape Guidelines were selected for their viability in today's market and their ability to <br />promote sustainable buildings, landscapes and communities; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, it is critical to both the economic and environmental health of San Leandro <br />that the City provide leadership to both the private and public sectors in the area of green <br />building and sustainable landscaping; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, a number of cities and counties throughout California have used these <br />guidelines and rating systems; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the adoption of these guidelines and rating systems as reference documents <br />would not constitute a "project" within the meaning of the California Environmental Quality Act <br />("CEQA"); <br /> <br />NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council hereby endorses and <br />promotes the use, whenever feasible of the Alameda County Residential Green Building <br />Guidelines, the U.S. Green Building Council's LEEDTM Rating Systems, and the Bay-Friendly <br />Guidelines as they may be amended from time to time; and <br /> <br />NOW THEREFORE, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the City Council directs <br />City staff to explore development of a more extensive voluntary residential program and to <br />prepare a draft municipal building ordinance that would require minimum LEED ™ standards for <br />certain municipal projects. <br /> <br />Introduced by Councilmember Santos and passed and adopted this 6th day of February, <br />2006, by the following called vote: <br /> <br />Members of the Council: <br /> <br />AYES: Councilmembers Badger, Grant, Nardine, Santos, Starosciak, Stephens; <br />Mayor Young (7) <br /> <br />NOES: None (0) <br /> <br />ABSENT: None (0) <br /> <br />ATTEST: <br /> <br />~.1J~ <br /> <br />Marian Handa, City Clerk <br /> <br />RESOLUTION NO. 2006-013 <br /> <br />2 <br />
