Penaranda, Elmer

From: Yvette Rice [ybrice@sbcglobal.net]
Sent: Thursday, August 03.200610:38 PM
To: Penaranda, Elmer
Subject: BZA Meeting on July 20, 2006

Hello, BZA Members,
I am Yvette Rice, and I live in Mulford Gardens. This evenings proposed project is on the opposide of
San Leandro from my house. Whether it gets done or not it's not in my back yard, looking in my
windows. However I care about the rest of San Leandro just as much as I care about my next door
neighbors house.
I believe this project is not good for San Leandro. It is TOO much house for our City. No matter
where it is in town. It would definitly be considered a Monster House by anyone. San Leandro does not
currently have an exact ordinance to govern the size of a Monster Houses. The City Planning
Department has a rough number they use.
From the description I have read the actual Land may be large enough to hold the dwellings the
appicant is proposing. However, he will have to cut into the hillside, destroy other peoples views,
disturb the foundations of the surrounding homes.
We have had hill slides in the past where the City had to purchase homes from residents. A loss of a
house would be a simple process to remmede, but the loss of ones Home is devastating. No matter the
way it happens. BZA can not forsee the weather or earthquakes.
I am totally against this HUGE plan the applicant has presented to you. San Leandro has historically
been a bedroom community. People purchasing a home, raising kids. That usualy means single family
homes. This house in not in line with the bedroom community plans of San Leandro. And according to
the CIty Council at their meeting on Monday, July 17, San Leandro wants to remain.
Mayor Young and Counsilman Tony Santos said we need to bring in many new families to San
Leandro. When considering the plan in front of them that night the City Council was in favor of dividing
up the property and selling the individual houses to individual Single Families. Maybe this applicant
could consider that?
I believe this is a bad project as it stands. It is to big for our City, too big for the area, to big for the
property no matter what the setbacks, to darn HUGE!! It is unsafe for that area. That hillside is not
reliable to hold such a large, overgrown Monster House. WIth all it's little surrounding buildings.
Please vote against this project. It is not good for San Leandro. Now or in the future. We need
reasonable developments in San Leandros future. This is not one.
Thank you very much for your time and attention to this very important matter. Sincerely from your
neighbor,
Yvette Buhler Rice

8/8/2006
