<br />CITY OF SAN LEANDRO <br />STAFF REPORT <br /> <br />APPROVED AND <br />FORWARDED <br />TO CITY COUNCIL <br /> <br />DATE: <br /> <br />December 4, 2006 <br /> <br />~ :tfi <br />Jo~ 1), 6rmanis <br />Cityt/,1ager <br /> <br />TO: John Jermanis, City Manager <br />FROM: Marian Handa, City Cler~ <br />SUBJECT PROJECT/PROJECT DESCRIPTION: <br /> <br />RESOLUTION DECLARING RESULTS OF THE SPECIAL MUNICIPAL RUN-OFF <br />ELECTION HELD ON TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 7,2006, FOR THE ELECTION OF <br />MAYOR AND CITY COUNCILMEMBER, DISTRICT 3 <br /> <br />SUMMARY AND RECOMMENDATION <br /> <br />A resolution declaring the results of the November 7, 2006 Special Municipal Runoff <br />Election for the City of San Leandro is presented to the City Council for consideration <br />and approval. <br /> <br />As of the printing of the agenda, the Statement of Election Results was still being <br />prepared by the Alameda County Registrar of Voters (ROV). The Statement of Results <br />will be provided to the Council at its December 4, 2006 meeting. The Statement lists the <br />final tally of votes received by each candidate as determined by the Official Canvass <br />performed by the ROV of the returns of all votes cast in the City of San Leandro. The <br />City Council is requested to adopt the attached resolution declaring the results of the <br />Election. <br /> <br />BACKGROUND <br /> <br />The Charter of the City of San Leandro requires a successful candidate for elective office <br />to receive at least 50% plus one of the votes cast for that office. In the event that no <br />candidate receives 50% plus one of the votes cast for that office, the Charter requires the <br />City Council to provide for a run-off vote to determine the person elected. In the June 6, <br />2006 General Municipal Election, no candidate for Mayor and no candidate for City <br />Council District 3 received the required 50% plus one votes cast for those offices to win <br />the election. <br /> <br />On July 17, 2006, the City Council adopted Resolution No. 2006-093, calling a Special <br />Municipal Runoff Election, to be held on November 7, 2006, among the two persons <br />receiving the highest number of votes for the office of Mayor and among the two persons <br />receiving the highest number of votes for the office of City Councilmember, District 3, in <br />the June 6, 2006 General Municipal Election.
