PUBLIC COMMENTS

Public Conunents are limited to 3 minutes per speaker, subject to adjustment by the Mayor.
When you address the City Council, you should fill out a speaker card and submit it to the
City Clerk so the order of speakers may be determined and an official record of names and
addresses obtained. The public is invited to make conunents on items of public interest NOT
listed on the Agenda.

Bella Comelo, San Leandro resident and member of the East Bay Alliance for Sustainable
Economy (EBASE), addressed the City Council in support of a living wage ordinance for San
Leandro. She conunented that the living wage campaign follows the principles that those
who work should not live in poverty and that local governments have a responsibility to
ensure tax dollars are not used to support poverty-wage employment. Ms. Comelo urged the
Council to adopt a living wage ordinance.

Matt Maloon, San Leandro resident and member of International Brotherhood of Electrical
Workers, addressed the City Council, providing the Council with a September 29, 2006
Oakland Tribune article on the subject of living wage. Mr. Maloon conunented on the need
for a living wage due to the high cost of living in the Bay Area relative to other parts of the
state and country.

Jim ProIa, San Leandro resident, addressed the City Council, conunenting on the level of
conununity support for a living wage ordinance as evidenced in a recent petition drive. Mr.
ProIa stated that there are twelve other local cities that have adopted living wage ordinances.
He noted that while it will not affect a large number of San Leandro residents, it will improve
the lives of those residents affected by it.
