Mayor Santos noted that the 25 mph limit applies when children are present Councilmember Souza asked whether signs would be posted near the schools to indicate that the speed limit is 25 mph when children arc present. Mr. Jermanis indicated that staff would look into the matter and report back to the Council. He commented on the process for setting speed limits. Couneilmember Stephens recalled a recent change to State law to allow fines in school zones to be doubled ifposted and suggested that staff may want to look into it. No amendment to Consent Calendar. 8. CONSENT CALENDAR Consent Calendar items arc considered for approval by the City Council with one single action. As described above in Item 7, Amendment of Consent Calendar, the City Council may remove items from the Consent Calendar for purposes of presentation or discussion. Members of the public who bave requested to address the Council regarding items remaining on the Consent Calendar may do so for up to 3 minutes per item with a maximum of 5 minutes for all items. Items listed on the Consent Calendar arc deemed to have been read by title. The items on the Consent Calendar were approved by the following vote: M/S/C Starosciak and Stephens. Ayes: 6; Noes: 0 A. Ordinance No. 2006-021, an Ordinance Relating to Speed Limits, Title VI, Chapter 1 of the San Leandro Municipal Code, Establishing Prima Facie Speed Limits of 30, 35, and 40 Miles Per Hour on Various Street Segments Citywide (reestablishes the posted speed limits based upon engineering and traffic surveys and requirements of the San Leandro Municipal Code and the CaIifomia Vehicle Code).
