Reports on City Council Committees <br /> <br />None. <br /> <br />12. CITY COUNCIL COMMENTS <br /> <br />Councilmember Santos commented on the accusations n1ade against him by Ms. Aborashed, <br />stating that the allegations are untrue. He noted that all City Council candidates should abide <br />by the Code of Fair Campaign Practices which they signed. Councilmember Santos stated <br />that he has been accused of negotiating with the Airport for its expansion and of being in <br />favor of building on wetlands which are also untrue. He noted his years of service on the <br />Environmental Quality Con1ll1ittee of the League of California Cities, and stated that his <br />environmental record is as good as anyone's. Councilmember Santos stated that at no time <br />has he removed the campaign signs of another candidate, or go to any business and suggest to <br />the owner that he or she remove an opponent's sign. <br /> <br />Vice Mayor Badger commented that he has noticed a proliferation of sidewalk displays of <br />merchandise on East 14th Street which block the sidewalks. He stated he will provide the <br />nall1es of businesses to the Community Relations Representative for follow-up. <br /> <br />Councibnember Glaze commented on elections, expressing hope that the Council will <br />consider changing the City's General Election from November. He noted that partisan <br />politics may have begun to affect the local election, and this was not the case when San <br />Leandro held stand-alone elections. <br /> <br />Councilmember Glaze commented on the proliferation of signs illegally posted on telephone <br />poles, freeway on-ramps, planted medians and CalTrans fences. He hoped that the City <br />would emphasize to candidates where posting of such signs is prohibited. <br /> <br />Councilmember Glaze noted that the problen1 of signs being removed or taken occurs in <br />every election. He recalled that when he ran for City Council in 1984, 750 of his signs were <br />ren10ved one weekend and dumped in a vacant lot in Hayward. <br /> <br />Councilll1ember Nardine commented that she will be administering 4,000 flu shots tOlnorrow. <br />She pointed out that a wind storm is expected tomorrow, and Mother Nature will be <br />relocating calnpaign signs. <br /> <br />Mr. J ermanis conm1ented that the three interpreters who translated the public hearing <br />proceedings are City employees. He thanked Reh-Lin Chen from the Engineering and <br />Transportation Department, Vivian Chiu from the City Clerk's Office and Sally Barros from <br />the Community Developn1ent Department for the fine job they did. <br /> <br />Mr. J ermanis acknowledged Assistant to the City Manager Eric Figueroa, Library Services <br />Manager Nancy Fong and Fire Marshal Theresa Johnson for assisting the audience in staYing <br />in con1pliance with safety regulations. He thanked Sid Schoenfeld and the staff of the Marina <br />COffitnunity Center, City Clerk Marian Handa, Community Relations Representative Kathy <br />
