<br />IN THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN LEANDRO <br /> <br />RESOLUTION NO. 2006-093 <br /> <br />(1055/3078) <br /> <br />RESOLUTION CALLING A SPECIAL MUNICIPAL RUNOFF ELECTION FOR THE <br />ELECTION OF A MAYOR AND CITY COUNCILMEMBER, DISTRICT 3; PROVIDING <br />NOTICE OF ELECTION ON THE 7TH DAY OF NOVEMBER, 2006 AND DIRECTING THAT <br />SAID NOTICE BE GIVEN; AND REQUESTING THAT THE ALAMEDA COUNTY BOARD <br />OF SUPERVISORS PERMIT THE CONSOLIDATION OF SAID MUNICIPAL ELECTION <br />WITH THE STATEWIDE GENERAL ELECTION TO BE HELD ON NOVEMBER 7,2006 <br />AND DIRECT THE ALAMEDA COUNTY REGISTRAR OF VOTERS TO PROVIDE ALL <br />NECESSARY SERVICES RELATED TO SAID ELECTION <br /> <br />WHEREAS, a General Municipal Election was held on Tuesday, June 6, 2006, for the <br />purpose of electing a Mayor and City Councihnembers for Districts 1, 3 and 5 for a full term of <br />four years; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, no candidate for the office of Mayor received at least 500/0 plus one of the <br />votes cast for that office; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, no candidate for the office of City Councilmember, District 3 received at <br />least 50% plus one of the votes cast for that office; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Section 225(b) of the Charter of the City of San Leandro requires a <br />successful candidate for elective office to receive at least 50% plus one of the votes cast for that <br />office, and in the event that no candidate for such elective office receives 500/0 plus one of the <br />votes cast for that office, the City Council shall provide for a runoff vote to determine the person <br />elected; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Ordinance No. 2006-008 of the City Council of the City of San Leandro sets <br />forth the procedure for the conduct of runoff elections an10ng the two persons having the highest <br />nUlnber of votes for an office by requesting the Alan1eda County Board of Supervisors to pem1it <br />the consolidation of the City's Municipal Runoff Election with the Statewide General Election in <br />Novelnber following the City's General Municipal Election. <br /> <br />NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN LEANDRO <br />DOES RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS: <br /> <br />SECTION 1. Pursuant to the provisions of Sections 225(b) and 605 of the Charter of the <br />City of San Leandro, the City Council hereby calls a Special Municipal Runoff Election, to be <br />held on Noven1ber 7, 2006, among the two persons having the highest number of votes for the <br />office of Mayor, and an10ng the two persons having the highest number of votes for the office of <br />City Councilmember, District 3, in the June 6, 2006 General Municipal Election. <br /> <br />SECTION 2. Notice of the tilne and place of holding said election is hereby given and <br />the City Clerk as the Elections Official of the City of San Leandro is hereby directed to publish, <br />
