<br />Upon the approval of the Police Chief, vacation leave may be accumulated to a maximum <br />of two (2) years' vacation entitlement and taken in one (1) calendar year. Such approval <br />shall be recorded in the employee's personnel file. An employee who fails to take <br />accrued vacation leave within the time herein prescribed shall cease accruing vacation <br />leave until vacation usage reduces below the prescribed limit. <br /> <br />An employee who is in unpaid status for 44 or more hours in a pay period shall not accrue <br />vacation leave for that pay period. <br /> <br />Upon being separated from City service, an eligible employee shall be entitled to <br />compensation for any accrued but unused vacation calculated at the rate of pay at the time <br />of termination. <br /> <br />The following vacation leave provisions do not apply to hourly or part-time employees. <br /> <br />13.2 Vacation leave for each full-time employee shall be accrued and credited for the pay <br />period in which it is earned. <br /> <br />An employee holding a full-time position shall be entitled to a vacation leave which shall <br />consist of five-sixths (5/6) work days for each full calendar month of service performed. <br />In the year in which an employee holding a full-time position completed five (5) full <br />years of City service, such employee shall be entitled to fifteen and three-quarters (15 % ) <br />work days of vacation for service performed. For each full year of full-time City service <br />completed thereafter, three-quarters (%) of a work day vacation shall be added up to a <br />maximum of twenty-five (25) work days of vacation. <br /> <br />13.3 If a member is on medical leave as a result of an on-duty injury or illness, the member's <br />vacation accrual shall continue. Upon return to duty, the member shall utilize the <br />vacation accrued while on medical leave within twelve (12) months of return to duty. <br />The vacation utilization shall be in accordance with established department vacation sign- <br />up procedures. <br /> <br />Section 14. Sick Leave <br /> <br />The object of sick leave is to provide orderly methods of furthering the health and safety of each <br />employee as well as aiding in the maintenance of productivity. <br /> <br />Sick leave is not a right which an employee can use at his or her discretion, but a privilege which <br />can be allowed only in case of actual sickness, or non job-incurred injury of such employee, or of <br />such employee's immediate family which compels the employee to be absent from work. <br /> <br />In order to qualify for paid sick leave, notification must be given to the work unit supervisor as <br />soon as practicable, but at least thirty (30) minutes prior to the start of the regular work day. <br />Waiver of this reporting requirement can be made by the Police Chief only, and only in specific <br />unusual circumstances. Absence for illness may not be charged to sick leave not already <br />accumulated. <br /> <br />An employee holding a full-time position with probationary or permanent status may be allowed <br />a leave of absence from duty without loss of pay on account of sickness or injury.
