CITY COUNCIL COMMENTS

Mayor Young commented that AC Transit is proposing an inlproved system which would
operate along a corridor from Berkeley to Oakland to San Leandro. She and Councilmember
Badger have served on the AC Transit Major Investment Study (MIS) committee for the past
several years and, in a recent meeting with AC Transit, Mayor Young agreed to appoint a San
Leandro ad hoc transit committee to review the proposed system for the draft ErR. Mayor
Young asked Councilmember Grant if she would be willing to join her and Councilmember
Badger to form the ad hoc committee.

Councilmember Grant acknowledged the need for San Leandro to have a voice in the
decision-making on the proposed service, but expressed reservations about it and concern that
the Council might expect her to "marshal through" the process. Mayor Young stated she
welcomed Councilmember Grant's participation and the fresh perspective she vvill bring to
the process.

It was the consensus of the Council to approve a San Leandro ad hoc transit committee
forn1ed by Mayor Young and conlposed of Mayor Young and Councilmembers Badger and
Grant.

Councilmember Santos commented on the high gas prices in Europe. He noted that since
returning from Germany, the AC Transit bus line 55 has been rerouted. Mayor Young noted
route changes have been under discussion for several months and some may be just taking
effect now. She offered to invite AC Transit Board representatives Dolores Jaques and Pat
Piras to a future Council Meeting to discuss the recent route changes. Councilmenlber Santos
requested current bus route information for the Marina Faire and Mulford Gardens areas from
staff.

Mayor Young stated she passed on information to staff from the Joseph Matteucci Foundation
regarding the implementation of a new education program called "What's Up with Guns."
Mayor Young suggested this program may be appropriate for use of gun tax revenue.
