<br />Minutes - City of San Leandro City Council, <br />San Leandro Economic Development Agency, and <br />San Leandro Redevelopment Agency Joint Meeting - February 19, 2002 <br /> <br />Page 12 <br /> <br />There was no consensus from the balancc of Council to forward this issue to the <br />Rules and Communications Committee. <br /> <br />Council Member Loeffler commented on the homeless issue and indicated that the <br />number of those homeless in San Leandro is not known. He questioned the City's <br />policies regarding homelessness and the possible use of National Guard Annories <br />and/or temporary shelters. He stated this issue should be discussed and decided as a <br />Council and as a matter of public policy. <br /> <br />Council Member Loef11er commended Assistant City Manager Ed Schilling for his <br />collaboration with Cal State Hayward to bring some interns from China to the City <br />of San Leandro. <br /> <br />Council Member Loeffler reported a constituent complaint regarding the lack of <br />public information regarding the cost of the library renovation. <br /> <br />In conclusion, Council Member Loeffler reported having received petitions from <br />residents regarding the Durant Square projects. He indicated that he will be <br />meeting with residents on Thursday. <br /> <br />C. Vice Mayor Glaze complimented the Policc Department for their speedy response <br />and follow-up regarding aggressive panhandling in the downtown area. <br /> <br />Vice Mayor Glaze also reported that Earth Day 2002 is approaching and that it will <br />fit in well with Council Member Badger's Operation Clean-up San Leandro <br />Campaign. <br /> <br />D. Council Member Nardine commented on the upcoming Work Session regarding <br />goals. She acknowledged the prioritization of goals compiled by department heads <br />and said that she hoped Council's prioritization of the goals are just as important to <br />them. She added that although technology was not in the Public Information Plan, <br />she would like to see online teclmology as a high priority/goal. <br /> <br />E. Council Member Grant reported on the Business Alliance Event that was very <br />successful. <br /> <br />Council Member Grant continued by inquiring about the status of the check-cashing <br />business moratorium and its effect on businesses along the E. 14th Street corridor. <br />
