Matter of Grant Writing Program Update. <br /> <br />Dan Lunsford, Emergency Services Manager, gave a staff report regarding the <br />status of the current program, which utilizes the services of DIT Consulting Group. <br /> <br />City Council discussion ensued regarding the need to pursue grants given the <br />importance of homeland security issues, technology infrastructure, and the desire to <br />lure private grants through publicity efforts. <br /> <br />Staff recommended the City Council continue the DIT grant contract through Fiscal <br />Year 2001/02, with the addition of a quarterly GWP report encompassing the City's <br />entire grant effort. It was noted that an evaluation of DJT's service will be <br />completed by September 2, 2002 at which time a recommendation will be made <br />regarding continuation of their contract or initiation of a new request for <br />qualifications process. <br /> <br />D. Report on Closed Session Actions Taken. <br /> <br />Mayor Young reported the City Council gave a favorable performance evaluation to the <br />City Manager and directed the City Attorney to bring a contract for Council to review at <br />the April 1, 2002, City Council Meeting. <br /> <br />9. CITY COUNCIL COMl\1ENTS <br /> <br />A. Council Member Santos reported he attended the recent National League of Cities <br />Conference in Washington, D.C. and commented on various meetings attended, <br />including discussions held regarding the new color program to designate levels of <br />security to be used in conjunction with the Homeland Security Program. <br /> <br />B. Council Member Loeffler reported on his attendance at the National League of <br />Cities Conference and commented on various meetings held regarding Project <br />Impact funding, Community Resource Response Teams, education/testing <br />requirements, and the President's new focus on homeland security. <br /> <br />C. Vice Mayor Glaze commented on his attendance at the National League of Cities <br />Conference and remarked on the meeting held with FEMA. He reported that <br />representatives at the Federal level were impressed with San Leandro's programs. <br /> <br />D. Council Member Nardine reported on her attendance at the National League of <br />Cities Conference where important issues such as school accountability report <br />cards, homeland security and creative ways of using HOME funds were <br />discussed. <br />
