<br />Minutes - City of San Leandro City Council Meeting <br />July 1,2002 <br /> <br />Page 11 <br /> <br />Council Member Nardine added that although fireworks in San Leandro arc ilIegal, <br />she continues to see an abundance of fireworks at the Marina each year. She <br />stressed the need for a greater presence of Police and Fire Departments to help <br />patrol the area. She stated she would also like to have a Police Department contact <br />number available for residents to call if there are problems. <br /> <br />D. Council Member Loeffler questioned what the amount of the fine is if a pcrson is <br />caught with illegal fireworks and suggested the information be shared with the <br />public in the San loeandm Times. <br /> <br />Council Member Loeffler reported on issues discussed with Mr. Nakadegawa, such <br />as parking overflow issues at the San Leandro BART station, possiblc pennit <br />parking, the SFO BART connection and the 24-hour parking restriction, and the <br />elevated BART system, which is at seismic risk. He indicated BART is working on <br />a report regarding that issue. <br /> <br />Council Member Loeffler commented on police services and stated he would hope <br />to see an update of San Leandro's crime data on the City's wcb pages. <br /> <br />Council Member Loeffler continued by commenting on the lack of enlorcemcnt of <br />the City's Smoking Ordinance in San Leandro. <br /> <br />In conclusion, Council Member Loeffler requested a discussion rcgarding public <br />access TV programming and then wished everyone a happy and safe 41h of July <br />holiday. <br /> <br />E. Council Member Santos concurred with Council Member Loeffler on the need for a <br />discussion regarding CATV usage. <br /> <br />Council Member Santos also reported concerns with crime in the Timothy Drive <br />area and indicated he has receivcd several complaints regarding noise from the <br />parking lot at Westgate as welI as problems the light from the big sign is causing in <br />the neighborhood. He suggested perhaps the sign could be turned ofT during certain <br />evening hours. <br /> <br />f. Mayor Young commented on School Recycling Recognition Awards, a program in <br />which Garfield School placed 3rd and Roosevelt School received an honorable <br />mention. <br /> <br />The Mayor also remarked about the number of letters received regarding the <br />Bayside Groundwater Project. She indicatcd shc had requested a copy of their <br />independent draft environmcntal report but had not received a response yct. <br /> <br />In conclusion, the Mayor acknowledged having presented the following recognitions <br />over the last couple of weeks: <br />
