<br />Minutes - City of San Leandro City Council and <br />San Leandro Redevelopment Agency Joint Meeting - May 7, 2001 <br /> <br />Page 10 <br /> <br />Vice Mayor Glaze also thanked the City Manager for the assistance of staff in <br />attending the EBMUD meetings. He acknowledged the Council for its support <br />and noted the need to preserve the quality of drinking water. He stated that he <br />hopes that EBMUD keeps their comment period open until they can address the <br />concerns of the public and concluded by stating that he will oppose the proposal <br />until safeguards are in place for all citizens. <br /> <br />D. Council Member Loeffler stated his concern about the actions being taken by <br />FEMA regarding the costs of rccovery being placed back on local government He <br />suggested staff research and report back to the Council the cost of insuring City <br />buildings in today's market <br /> <br />Council Member Loeffler clarified with the City Manager that the new budget <br />would be responding to the issues raised in the City's Quality of Life Survey. <br /> <br />E. Council Member Santos noted the long history of J. G. Sanders' services with <br />Mulford Garden, the Dad's Club and Boy Scouts. <br /> <br />Council Member Santos also concurred with the Vice Mayor's comments <br />regarding the EBMUD project. He suggested that EBMUD needs to do a better <br />job of selling its project to the southwestern residents of San Lcandro. <br /> <br />F. The Mayor concurred with comments made by Vice Mayor Glaze and noted the <br />City will continue to work with EBMUD. <br /> <br />The Mayor reported that she was meeting with two families, CAL TRANS, <br />Council Member Galvan and Council Member Grant on May 8th to address sound <br />wall issues along 1-580. It was notcd that there would be a public meeting on May <br />22,2001. <br /> <br />The Mayor commended Dale Reed for his recognition by the State Chamber of <br />Commerce as the Small Business Advocate of the Year. She also reported that she <br />had visited a new comprehensive High School in Fresno, along with <br />representatives from San Leandro and San Lorenzo Unified School Districts. <br /> <br />The Mayor continued by noting that $200.00 from the Mayor's Community Fund <br />will be donated to San Leandro High School and Arroyo High School ($100 each) <br />for their Sober Grad Nights. <br /> <br />In conclusion, the Mayor noted that she will be bringing to the Council a model <br />wood smoke ordinance from Bay Air Quality Control in the near future and will be <br />writing an article on the issue for inclusion in the San Leandro Times. <br />
