<br />Minutes - City of San Leandro City Council Meeting <br />May 21, 2001 <br /> <br />Page 11 <br /> <br />9. CITY COUNCIL COMMENTS <br /> <br />A. Council Member Grant noted that Assemblywoman Corbett is hosting an Energy <br />Forum at the Marina Community Center at 12 noon on Thursday, May 24,2001. <br /> <br />B. Vice Mayor Glaze requested that when the City considers future fiber optic line <br />installation in city streets, when considering the Capital Improvement Budget, the <br />City Council should include incorporating schools into the discussion. <br /> <br />C. Council Member Loeffler commented that the Council needs to review technology <br />and the degree to which we are connecting to the agencies we serve. <br /> <br />Council Member Loeffler commended staff for the increased activities focusing on <br />seniors and commended the Arts Council for its programs, noting the Art at the <br />Library Program scheduled from May 21 to June 17, 2001. <br /> <br />D. Council Member Santos stated he has been receiving increased requests for a <br />Senior Center. <br /> <br />Council Member Santos shared from a book on Portuguese History of San <br />Leandro and noted that Helen Lawrence was the first woman Mayor in San <br />Leandro, as well as the first woman to be elected Mayor in the State of California. <br />He suggested that the Rules and Communications Committee discuss a way to <br />appropriately recognize Helen Lawrence. <br /> <br />Council Member Santos also suggested that the Mayor and Council Members' <br />budgets be referred to the Rules & Communications Committee for review as to <br />the proportions of each. It was noted that this issue would be placed on the next <br />regular City Council meeting agenda for discussion and referral to the Rules & <br />Communications Committee. <br /> <br />10. CONTINUED PUBLIC COMMENTS <br /> <br />Continued Public Comments is limited to the balance of speaker cards that have been <br />submitted to the City Clerk and any new speakers who have not been heard. <br />Comments will be limited to 5 minutes per speaker. <br /> <br />None <br />
