JOINT CITY COUNCIL/SAN LEANDRO REDEVELOPMENT <br />AGENCY PUBLIC HEARING <br /> <br />A. Matter of Arnendment to the Plaza Redevelopment Project (amends the Plaza <br />Redevelopment Plan to includc recommendations in the Central San <br />Leandro/BART Area Revitalization Strategy relating to streetscape and pedestrian <br />improvements as well as pre[elTed land uses in and around the Central San Leandro <br />BART Station area). <br /> <br />This being the time and place ior the Public Hearing on the above matter, City <br />Manager John Jcnnanis introduced Senior Planner Matt Tomas, who gave an <br />overview of the proposed changes. <br /> <br />Council Member Badger expressed support for retail and onice uses rather than <br />residential use. <br /> <br />Council Member Loef11er clarified that the proposal for a Creekside [nteqxetive <br />Center would lit with a Business Park area. <br /> <br />Council discussion ensued regarding the proposaf for a Creekside Interpretive <br />Center, the Fire Training Station, the existing churches at that location, and the <br />adequacy of open space/game iields for community use. <br /> <br />Council Member Loeff1er stated that the map docs not include the [<'ire Training <br />Station and clarified with staff all existing t~tcilities will be allowed to stay. <br /> <br />Council Member Loeffler expressed concern with the developrnent to the north of <br />over 350 homes generating the potential of approximately 1000 new residents in <br />San Leandro, the adequacy of field space for the community to use. <br /> <br />Council Member Nardine said she thinks the "[" for Institutional" is a confusing <br />designation because "I" is used for "Industrial." Mr. Tomas said they could arrange <br />for a different designation. <br /> <br />The I learing was then opened to the public <br /> <br />Nashua Kalil, Representing BART, addressed the City Council and supp0l1ed <br />staff's recommendation, thanking them for their professionalism and thoroughness <br />of approach in bringing the vision of the citizens into the Revitalization Plan and its <br />recommended strategies. <br /> <br />Larry Norry, President of Mulford Gardens' Improvement Association, 2532 <br />Williams Street, addrcsscd thc City Council regarding "Industrial" and <br />"Institutional" designations and the MulttJrd Gardens' "RO" dcsignated zoning. He <br />requested the use of letters othern than "I" for Institutional and "RO" for Residential <br />in the Revitalization Plan. He noted the "RO" designation pertains to the Mulford <br />Gardens area in the zoning code. <br />
