It is recommended that at the February 5, 2007 City Council meeting, each member <br />of the City Council select four individuals from among the field of applicants to participate in an <br />interview process to be held at a Special City Council Meeting on February 13, 2007. The five <br />applicants chosen most often by tbe Council will be invited to attend the February 13, 2007 Special <br />City Council meeting for an interview with the Council <br /> <br />BACKGROUND <br /> <br />At the December 18, 2006 City Counci I meeting, the City Council approved the process for filling the <br />District 6 Council vacancy created by the election of District 6 City Councilmember Tony Santos to <br />Mayor, declared its intention to fill the District 6 Council vacancy by appointment and directed staff to <br />provide public notice of the vacancy and application process. The Council added to the process tbe <br />requirement that applicants gather 20 signatures of registered voters in District 6, as a way of showing <br />community support for their applications. <br /> <br />Applications for the District 6 City Council position were made available beginning on January 2, <br />2007, at City Hall and on the City's website. Announcement of the vacancy and information on the <br />application process were published in both the Daily Review and San Leandro Times newspapers. <br /> <br />At the close of the application period on January 26, 2007, 12 applications had been received. <br />Applications were received from: Wafaa Aborashed, HcmlY Almonte, Adan Alonzo, Estelle Clemons, <br />Esther Collier, Ray Davis, Cannen Fcwless, Luster Knight, Jean Morris, Bo Panoringan, Jim ProIa and <br />Mark Tichy. Copies of the applications have been forwarded to the City Council for review and are <br />available for public review in the City Clerk's Office. The nomination signatures of the applicants <br />were verified by the Alameda County Registrar's Office. According to the Registrar's Office, of the <br />12 applicants, all but Luster Knight had 20 valid nomination signatures. Mr. Knight had 15 valid <br />signatures. <br />
