CITY OF SAN LEANDRO STAFF REPORT APPROVED AND FORWARDED TO CITY COUNCIL BY: Kenneth Joseph, City Engineer DATE: March 5, 2007 TO: John Jermanis, City Manager FROM: Uchenna Udemezue, Directo Engineering and Transportatio SUBJECT PROJECT/PROJECT DESCRIPTION: RESOLUTION ACCEPTING THE WORK FOR THE DAVIS STREET/DOOLITTLE DRIVE INTERSECTION IMPROVEMENTS, PROJECT NO. 04-210-38-249 SUMMARY AND RECOMMENDATION The work includes widening the roadway at the Davis Street/Doolittle Drive intersection providing additional lanes and modifying the traffic signals compatible to the improvements. Staff recommends acceptance of the work, filling of the Notice of Completion, and upon completion to the satisfaction of the City Engineer of the one year maintenance period, hereby authorizes the City Manager to release the Maintenance Bond for the subject project. BACKGROUND A Traffic Impact Study was prepared as part of the Bayside Business Park development located at 2501 Davis Street. The study identified the need for modifications to the Davis Street/ Doolittle Drive intersection to address cumulative traffic impacts from the existing and new businesses in the area. The specific improvements to the intersection to address traffic growth were identified, and as required by the development agreement, a design for these improvements was completed by the business park developer. Construction of these improvements was then performed by the City. Analysis On April 18, 2005 by Resolution No. 2005-049 the City Council awarded the construction contract to Gradetech, Inc., the responsible low bidder. The improvements included the widening of the intersection of Davis StreetIDoolittle Drive to provide additional through lanes and turning lanes, and improve traffic flow. Also included are improvements to the traffic signals and the reconfiguration of the signal system consistent with the new layout.
