The Marina <br />Community Center, located in the western part of the City, is available to the community for <br />celebrations, meetings, and leisure classes. The Shoreline Recreation Area offers opportunities <br />for outdoor enthusiasts. This destination spot includes 27 holes of nationally acclaimed Bayside <br />golf with a fullservice clubhouse and an all-weather practice facility, a 131-room hotel, two <br />restaurants overlooking the Bay, a 455-slip yacht harbor, a sheltered sailing lagoon, and a <br />marina. There is also a 20-acre park with a sand volleyball court, picnic tables with barbeques, <br />two playgrounds, an exercise par course, and the San Francisco Bay trail for hiking and <br />bicycling. <br /> <br />Transportation <br /> <br />Interstate Highway 580 (east-west), Interstate Highway 680 (north-south) and Highway <br />61 provide access to the nearby cities of Oakland, San Francisco, Sacramento, San Jose, and <br />the Central Valley. <br /> <br />San Leandro is located 7 miles from the Oakland International Airport, 35 miles from San <br />Jose Municipal Airport and 25 miles from San Francisco International Airport. Deep water <br />shipping facilities are available at the Port of Oakland and the Port of San Francisco, 10 miles <br />and 20 miles from the City, respectively. <br /> <br />A.C. Transit provides regional bus service and connects with the Greyhound Terminal <br />and two San Leandro Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) stations. Two Bay Area Rapid Transit <br />(BART) stations in the city connect San Leandro with San Francisco and cities in four county <br />areas. San Leandro LINKS is a shuttle bus program for transporting employees in west San <br />Leandro to and from the Downtown BART station. Three nearby international airports link San <br />Leandro residents and businesses with every destination in the world. Oakland International <br />Airport is just minutes away. The Port of Oakland, one of the West Coast's largest containerized <br />cargo shipping facilities, is just 10 miles north of San Leandro. The Port's deep-water container <br />terminal is the fourth largest and busiest in the nation, one of the top 40 container ports globally, <br />and is served by over 35 shipping lines. San Leandro's prime location in the Bay Area benefits <br />both the residents and the business community. <br /> <br />Educational Facilities <br /> <br />The City is served by two school districts. The San Leandro Unified School District is <br />composed of eleven public schools consisting of one high school, two middle schools and eight <br />elementary schools. A portion of the City is within the San Lorenzo Unified School District, <br />where two elementary schools, one middle school and one high school serve San Leandro <br />students. In addition, a number of parochial schools are located within the City limits and in <br />adjacent communities.
