Report on Closed Session Actions Taken. <br /> <br />None <br /> <br />8. CITY COUNCn.. COMMENTS <br /> <br />A. Council Member Loeffler reported on a Public Hearing being held by the City of <br />Oakland's Planning Department regarding the Durant property. He encouraged <br />interested residents to attend and to be kept informed. <br /> <br />Council Member Loeffler also complimented staff on the MacArthur Boulevard <br />Streetscape Master Plan Workshop, which was held on February 25th, indicating <br />there was a good turnout at the meeting. <br /> <br />Council Member Loeffler continued by commenting on education and public <br />service. He expressed concerns with the school system and the funding available <br />for teachers. He suggested there may be a way to share resources and indicated <br />the City, Chamber of Commerce, and the community need to sit down and talk <br />about priorities. <br /> <br />In conclusion, Council Member Loeffler indicated he will be out of town for the <br />NLC Conference and will not be at the next City Council Meeting. <br /> <br />B. Vice Mayor Galvan reported on his attendance at a recent Bay-O-Vista <br />Homeowners' Association Meeting and indicated the residents were not in support <br />of the proposed Geologic Hazard Abatement District (GHAD). He indicated they <br />had expressed concerns with the boundaries that were created. <br /> <br />Vice Mayor Galvan also stated his concerns with regard to teachers, test scores, <br />etc. He indicated there is a need to take a hard look at resources in the <br />community, but first he feels there is a need to address communication issues with <br />the School District. <br /> <br />C. Mayor Young indicated there is a City Council/San Leandro Unified School <br />District Liaison Committee Meeting tomorrow, and she will be requesting a <br />separate meeting with Board President Collins to address what the School District <br />and City can reasonably do to support each other. <br /> <br />Council Member Loeffler indicated that perhaps developer funds could go to <br />improving school grounds for recreation and possibly free up funding for teachers' <br />salaries. <br />
