CITY COUNCIL COMMENTS <br /> <br />A. Council Member Loeffler thanked Information Services for being able to facilitate <br />the printing of the City Council Agendas from the City's Web site and indicated he <br />likes the "What's New" feature on the website. <br /> <br />Council Member Loeffler continued by commenting on the City's recent Disaster <br />Drill and requested clarification of the City Manager's authority to spend funds <br />without Council approval under normal circumstances v. if there was a real <br />disaster. <br /> <br />Council Member Loeffler suggested the City Council discuss the use of the funds <br />from the 3% tax on handgun sales in San Leandro and suggested that since the San <br />Leandro Collaborative for Youth and Families is on the verge of implementing the <br />Youth Master Plan, that those funds be considered for supporting programs to <br />prevent violence. <br /> <br />B. Council Member Lothrop suggested the funds from the handgun tax be used for a <br />memorial to recognize youth and/or families who were victims of violence in our <br />community. <br /> <br />Council Member Lothrop reported on two upcoming community forums that she is <br />hosting regarding Child Care and Historical Issues. <br /> <br />C. Mayor Young congratulated Surlene Grant and Bob Glaze on their re-election to <br />their respective City Council Districts and also congratulated Tony Santos on his <br />election to Council Member, District 6. The Mayor continued by thanking stafffor <br />their efforts in defeating Measure "G" and concluded by commenting on the <br />increase in voter turnout in San Leandro for the November 7, 2000 Presidential <br />Election. She remarked that the City Council should make some decisions, <br />relating to the implementation of Measure "F' (Run-Off Elections), sometime soon <br />after the first of the new year. <br /> <br />Mayor Young reported that she, Council Member Galvan and Tom Guarino, <br />Chamber of Commerce CEO, had recently gone to Washington, D.C., to accept <br />from FEMA the designation of San Leandro as a "Project Impact City." She <br />indicated there will be a "Project Impact" signing ceremony soon. <br /> <br />D. Council Member Galvan remarked on the recent article in "Western City" featuring <br />San Leandro's Disaster Preparedness Program and acknowledged the efforts of <br />Dan Lunsford. <br />
