<br />ExmBIT 3 <br /> <br />ALAMEDA COUNTY FIRE DEPARTMENT <br /> <br />1.) Does the County Administrator's Office review the budget to the same level of other County <br />Departments? <br /> <br />Response: <br /> <br />The Alameda County Fire Department, a dependent special district is under the governance of <br />the Alameda County Board of Supervisors. The Fire Department is a department of the County <br />and the Board appoints the Fire Chief. <br /> <br />The Alameda County Fire Department's budget is reviewed and monitored by the County <br />Administrator's Office like any other County agency/department. The annual budget is adopted <br />by the Board of Supervisors after an open public process. Mid-year budget adjustments are <br />reviewed by the County Administrator's Office and if necessary, submitted to the Board of <br />Supervisors for formal approval. <br /> <br />2.) Does the CAO get involved in the meet and confer process with the Firefighters Union to <br />insure the salary and benefit package is comparable to what other County employees receive. <br /> <br />Response: <br /> <br />The Human Resource Services Director has primary responsibility for labor negotiations for the <br />County. The HRS Director prepares salary and benefit surveys and works closely with the <br />County Administrator throughout the meet and confer process. The Board of Supervisors is <br />updated regularly by staff during negotiations and provides direction to the County negotiators. <br />
