I have seen the decline of my
lovely city to the point that I do not hesitate to go to Stoneridge or San Francisco to spend my money,

There are only three "special occasion-high end restaurants" in this city...Horatio's, Vo, & Paradiso. We do have
a Macy*s, but it doesn't carry many of the designer brands I prefer, such as Chanel make-up and
Givenchy jewelry. I have even seen discrepancies within a brand name. For example: I was interested in a
particular Anne Klein watch. The price($350) was too high for the store to carry. The nearest location for that
particular watch was Stoneridge.

Bayfair Mall is trying a revival, but I don't see "quality"...not a Nordstrom's, not a Banana Republic, not a specialty
boutique of any kind(Baby Gap, Steve Madden, Williams Sonoma). They took away the only bookstore and the
Hallmark Shop. Many years ago Unlimited and Gantos disappeared, never to return.

Instead, I see 99-Cent stores, Dollar Trees, discount stores, drive-thrus, and "super-saver/big-box" stores going
up on all streets and corners, not to mention the ubiquitous Starbucks!

I was dismayed and insulted when the Trader Joe's demographics report stated that they would not put in Trader
Joe's at the old Albertson's site because there weren't enough people with college degrees living here!

Did I hear that a Wal-Mart or Costco is replacing the Target on Hesperian and Lewelling? Do we really need two
of either one of these stores in our city?!?

Did you know that at dd's Discounts, $33 purses are locked up? Yet at Nordstom's, $330 bags are open for
everyone to try on! If we continue to support low-end shopping and dining, we will continue to attract low-end
residents! We must support higher standards for this city!

DORI ROBINSON

6/11/2007
