It is troubling to know that these guys from Orange County can come into San Leandro and demand that we put this second rate grocery store in our community, simply because they backed out of the original vision of this space. My recommendation to the City Council is the following: I am adamantly opposed to this store and I am recommending to the City Council that they not vote "NO" on this issue. This store is hardly a "small neighborhood" grocery store. BTW I did visit a grocery outlet in Santa Rosa. The store was comprised of crowded aisles with dry goods stacked around their food items. The waters they had were Oasani and they did not have an expiration date on them. You could barely walk down the aisles with a cart without bumping into something. The goods they were selling were not gourmet items, like they continually profess. The outside of the Grocery Outlet was not appealing aesthetically, as it had a lot of trash in the parking lot. It looked as though they took an old grocery site and just put their goods in the market without any concern of how it was presented to the consumers. I trust that the City is looking for businesses that can improve the quality of life and make San Leandro a City we will be proud of in years to come.
