MINUTES Page 4 City of San Leandro City Council and San Leandro Redevelopment Agency Joint Meeting-July 2, 2007 Dennis Byas, San Lorenzo Unified School District, addressed the City Council, introducing himself and commenting that he is looking forward to working collaboratively with the City Council. Victoria Wang, San Leandro resident, addressed the City Council, expressing support for the Council's adoption of the Sister City/Friendship City guidelines and for adopting Yangchun as a Friendship City. Ms. Wang commented on the educational benefits to youth of a Friendship City relationship. Stephen Leung, San Leandro resident, addressed the City Council, providing a copy to the Council of the Memorandum of Understanding on Friendly Cooperation between the County of Alameda and the City of Zhongshan, Guangdong Province, People's Republic of China. Mr. Leung urged the Council to move forward with the adoption ofYangchun as a Friendship City. 6. CITY MANAGER AND CITY ATTORNEY REPORTS AND COMMENTS City Manager Jermanis indicated that the adoption of Friendship City guidelines would be considered later in tonight's meeting. Regarding Mr. Perez's comments about fireworks, Mr. Jermanis encouraged residents to call the Police Department for fireworks violations. He noted that the City recently changed its fireworks ordinance to allow a Police Officer to cite property owners for the use of fireworks on their properties, and the City is using a variety of methods to publicize this change. Mr. Jermanis stated that he believed Mr. Johansen had already been sent the requested information. He commented that the City contributed 60% of the approximately $300,000 cost of the improvements to Walnut Drive. Mr. Jermanis indicated that he would ensure that Mr. Johansen receives the information. Mr. Jermanis commented that it was good to have Dr. Byas come to the meeting, and he is looking forward to working with him. He commented on the City's positive working relationship with the San Lorenzo Unified School District. 7. AMENDMENT OF CONSENT CALENDAR City Councilmembers or staff have an opportunity at this time to request that an item be removed from the Consent Calendar for the presentation of a staff report or other special consideration. Members of the Public may request the opportunity to address the City Council regarding items remaining on the Consent Calendar by filling out a speaker card and submitting it to the City Clerk prior to the calling of Item 7, Amendment of Consent Calendar. Items remaining on the Consent Calendar will be considered for approval under one motion.
