<br />Community Emergency Response Training (CERT) for neighborhoods, agencies and <br />companies in San Leandro, and Personal Preparedness Training for individuals through <br />group presentations. An Emergency Preparedness Workshop for the community at large is <br />being offered in September, with more meetings and specialized training to follow. <br /> <br />Vice Mayor Grant encouraged the City to exercise its Emergency Operations Center (EOC) <br />again and update the Management Operations Plan. She suggested emergency preparedness <br />information should be included in the activities offered for National Night Out each year. <br />She also commented on the fact that a whole new generation of San Leandrans are in our <br />schools now that did not experience the Lorna Prieta earthquake nor have never experienced <br />any major earthquake. Mr. Jermanis agreed that one of staffs goals needs to be having <br />another EOC exercise soon and reported that the plans for the new Senior Community Center <br />include equipping that facility to act as the City's dedicated EOe. He also suggested it <br />would be good to provide emergency response and responsibility training once again for all <br />of the City's Boards and Commission. Kathy Ornelas added that staff is currently working <br />with a consultant to update the Management Operations Plan and other emergency response <br />plans that have been adopted in years past. <br /> <br />Committee Recommendation <br /> <br />None <br /> <br />2. Report from School Districts on First Responder Training <br /> <br />Both local School Districts have been involved in developing first responder plans. First <br />responder plans will allow police, fire and other emergency personnel immediate access to <br />web-based data on school sites, photographs of classrooms, locations of exit routes, <br />hazardous materials and utilities, staging areas, and all other specific information emergency <br />personnel would need to be able to promptly respond to and resolve any emergency situation. <br /> <br />Karen Langmaid reported that San Lorenzo Schools is reviewing the Safe Schools plan being <br />offered by the Alameda County Office of Emergency Services, which is essentially the plan <br />described above. Daniel Hillman from San Leandro Schools reported that they are exploring <br />the use of grant funds to have a consultant firm develop their first responder plans. They are <br />also planning a critical incident exercise for the 07 -08 school year. <br /> <br />Mayor Santos commented on the importance of having supplies at the school sites and that <br />the City's Ark program has stored emergency supplies at various schools should they be <br />activated as emergency shelter sites. Ms. Langmaid indicated that all of the classrooms in <br />her District have emergency supply caches. <br /> <br />Committee Recommendation <br /> <br />None <br /> <br />3.
