<br />MINUTES <br />City of San Leandro City Council Meeting-July 9, 2007 <br /> <br />Page 5 <br /> <br />Fred Reicker, San Leandro resident, addressed the City Council, commenting that he <br />served on the General Plan Advisory Committee. Mr. Reicker stated that he believes a <br />Grocery Outlet in the downtown would be inconsistent with the City's General Plan and <br />is not in the City's best long-tem1 interests. Mr. Reicker expressed support for the <br />Council denying the appeal. <br /> <br />Thomas Croda, San Leandro resident, addressed the City Council, expressmg <br />support for Grocery Outlet and stating that Grocery Outlet serves the City's <br />demographics. Mr. Croda commented on the panhandling problem downtown. <br /> <br />Lorraine Yoshikawa, San Leandro resident, addressed the City Council, expressing <br />support for Grocery Outlet and their products and pricing. Ms. Yoshikawa commented <br />on the donations made by Grocery Outlet to local schools and its support for special <br />events. Ms. Yoshikawa commented that people of all income levels shop at Grocery <br />Outlet. <br /> <br />Emilia Martins, San Leandro resident, addressed the City Council, expressing <br />opposition to Grocery Outlet locating in San Leandro and commenting that there are <br />already many discount stores selling groceries in the City. Ms. Martins commented that <br />outlet stores are not usually located in downtown areas, and she stated that she feels the <br />City needs more high-end shopping. <br /> <br />Wafaa Aborashed, San Leandro resident, addressed the City Council, echoing the <br />comments made by Mr. Reicker, stating that the GP AC made sound decisions regarding <br />the plan for downtown San Leandro. Ms. Aborashed commented that the area of Park <br />Street and Buena Vista in Alameda has the type of retail mix and walkability that San <br />Leandro might want to emulate. <br /> <br />Margarita Lacabe, San Leandro Community Action Network, addressed the City <br />Council, expressing SLCAN's opposition to the Grocery Outlet appeal and support for <br />the Downtown TOD Strategy. Ms. Lacabe commented on the unsuitability of Grocery <br />Outlet for the old Albertson's site. <br /> <br />Malaika Hopkinson, San Leandro resident, addressed the City Council, commenting <br />that as a member of the TOD Citizens Advisory Committee, she supports Grocery <br />Outlet, but not at the proposed location. Ms. Hopkinson stated that she was contacted <br />for Grocery Outlet's telephone survey, and she commented that some of the information <br />given by the surveyor was incorrect. Ms. Hopkinson commented that Grocery Outlets <br />in other cities were not located downtown, and she submitted the postcards from <br />Grocery Outlet which she received in the mail. <br /> <br />Kaaron Penny, San Leandro resident, addressed the City Council, commenting in <br />opposition to Grocery Outlet locating downtown and stating that San Leandro can do <br />better. <br />
