<br />DRAFT MINUTES <br />City of San Leandro City Council and San Leandro Redevelopment Agency Joint Meeting-July 30,2007 <br /> <br />Page ] 4 <br /> <br />Mayor Santos noted that he recently received his monthly ACTIA report, which <br />includes a number of projects which affect the City of San Leandro. He has asked the <br />City Manager to place the projects on the Facilities and Transportation Committee's <br />agenda for discussion. <br /> <br />B. Reports on Conferences and Seminars <br /> <br />Councilmember Gregory reported that he attended the League of California Cities <br />Executive Forum in Monterey. <br /> <br />Vice Mayor Grant reported that she also attended the League Forum in Monterey and <br />attended presentations on affordable housing and community engagement. <br /> <br />Councilmember Souza reported that she also attended the League Forum in Monterey. <br />She reported on a session on obligations under the law, in which there was discussion <br />on AB 414, which addresses mixed use housing in commercial areas. Councilmember <br />Souza asked if the Council could receive more information on how affordable housing <br />is affected by this law. Councilmember Souza reported that she also attended an <br />interesting session on California's ethnic and gay lesbian, bisexual and trans gender <br />media presented by Sandy Close, founder of New American Media. Councilmember <br />Souza suggested that the City consider purchasing Ms. Close's book, which contains a <br />list of ethnic media resources, in order to utilize these resources for better community <br />outreach. <br /> <br />Councilmember Starosciak reported that she also attended the League Forum in <br />Monterey and attended presentations on art in public spaces and affordable for-profit <br />housing projects. She reported that she also took a class in Spanish for elected officials. <br /> <br />Councilmember Stephens reported that he also attended the League Forum in Monterey. <br />He reported on Friday's general session on connecting with the community, which <br />provided some very interesting insights. <br /> <br />Mayor Santos reported that he also attended the League Forum in Monterey. He <br />reported that he attended the session on affordable housing as well as a session on the <br />mayor's role at council meetings. <br /> <br />C. Reports on City Council Committees <br /> <br />1. Business and Housing Development Committee Meeting of July 12, 2007. <br />Accepted as submitted. <br /> <br />2. Marina Committee Meeting of July 10,2007. Accepted as submitted. <br /> <br />Councilmember ProIa pointed out a correction to the meeting highlights, regarding <br />the benefits of forming a Citizens Advisory Committee. He recalled that this idea <br />was suggested by one committee member, but did not recall that there was <br />
