One of the items discussed was how to deal with the
devastation to the transportation system anticipated as a result of the next major
earthquake. Councilmember ProIa indicated that he received information at the meeting
that he could share with the Council.

Vice Mayor Grant reported on her participation in the California Civic Leadership
Institute, sponsored by the League of California Cities and its corporate partners. She
reported on the three-day Leadership Institute she attended in Big Creek.

C. Reports on City Council Committees

1. City and San Leandro Unified School District Liaison Committee Meeting of July
23,2007. Accepted as submitted.

2. Facilities and Transportation Committee Meeting of July 24, 2007. Accepted as
submitted.

12. CITY COUNCIL COMMENTS

Councilmember Gregory requested that the meeting be adjourned ill memory of Brian
Copeland's grandmother, Lena Arbee.

Vice Mayor Grant commented on the recent news articles regarding conversations between
the Mayor, City Manager, and representatives from San Lorenzo related to annexation. She
requested a report on the feasibility of annexation, possibly through a Council committee.
Vice Mayor Grant commented that she spoke at Brian Copeland's grandmother's service at
Assumption Church on behalf of the City and City Council. She reported that she was the
keynote speaker at the Stephanie Cadet Foundation, which awards scholarships to youth for
volunteer and community service, as well as academic achievement. Vice Mayor Grant
commented that while on the East Coast, she rode an Amtrak Acela train. The train had wi-fi,
and was quiet, smooth and fast. Vice Mayor Grant requested that tonight's meeting be
adjourned in memory of journalist Chauncey Bailey, and she read into the record an essay on
Mr. Bailey's life and accomplishments.

Councilmember Souza commented that Comcast is advertising self-installation kits on TV,
and she requested that staff look into this. Mr. Jermanis indicated that Comcast has asked to
make a report on its plans to the Facilities and Transportation Committee.

Councilmember Starosciak commented that she would like the Council to consider a dog
park, and suggested that perhaps the Recreation and Parks Commission could provide the
Council with input on the feasibility of a dog park in San Leandro. Councilmember
Starosciak reported that both she and Councilmember Souza received calls from Washington
Manor Middle School regarding a near-miss in a crosswalk of a student walking to school. A
parent organization is being formed and will meet at Back to School Night, and she will work
with the City Manager to see how the City can support the School District around this issue.
