<br />DRAFT MINUTES Page 8 <br />City of San Leandro City Council, San Leandro Economic Development Agency, and San Leandro Redevelopment <br />Agency Joint Meeting-September 4, 2007 <br /> <br />improvements be started immediately in order to improve the environment of the <br />downtown. <br /> <br />Len Reppond, Concerned Citizens for Responsible Development, addressed the <br />City Council, commenting that the TOD Strategy is very positive for the City. Mr. <br />Reppond commented on three key sites that form a core for the improvement of the <br />City: the old Albertson's, the site at Davis/CallanlEast 14th and BART. Mr. Reppond <br />commented that to remove one of the properties would severely damage the plan. <br /> <br />Richard Wahl, San Leandro resident, addressed the City Council, commenting <br />favorably on the improvements already made downtown. Mr. Wahl commended the <br />City Council for taking action to adopt the TOD Strategy to create a vibrant <br />downtown for San Leandro. <br /> <br />Diana Gentry, CEO of the San Leandro Chamber of Commerce, addressed the <br />City Council, expressing the Chamber's support for the TOD Strategy and stating that <br />it would like to see the SP-l area treated the same as the other Special Policy areas. <br /> <br />Natalia Paredes, San Francisco resident, addressed the City Council, commenting <br />that she has worked in San Leandro for 13 years but cannot afford to live here. Ms. <br />Paredes asked the City Council to consider the people who come from other areas to <br />work in San Leandro, and to provide an opportunity for them to live here. (Ms. <br />Paredes' comments were translated by Ms. Alcantar from COR.) <br /> <br />Beri Mazuriegos, COR, addressed the City Council, commenting that she lives on <br />the San Leandro/Oakland border and is a single mother of four living in a one <br />bedroom home. Ms. Mazuriegos commented that she would like to afford to live near <br />the BART station in San Leandro, which would allow her to spend more time with <br />her children. (Ms. Mazuriegos' comments were translated by Ms. Alcantar from <br />COR.) <br /> <br />Pauline Cutter, San Leandro resident, addressed the City Council, thanking the <br />Council and various groups for their work in putting together the TOD Strategy. Ms. <br />Cutter commented that she would like the City to be mindful of mitigating the <br />impacts of the plan on the schools. Ms. Cutter commented that she believed the <br />implementation of the plan would be a win-win for everyone. <br /> <br />Chris Schildt, Transportation & Land Use Coalition, addressed the City Council, <br />applauding the Council for its consideration of the TOD Strategy. Ms. Schildt <br />commented that the key to the Strategy is putting homes near jobs and making them <br />affordable so that people who work in San Leandro can also afford to live here. Ms. <br />Schildt commented that the plan offers the opportunity to make San Leandro a leader <br />in creating a truly great community. <br /> <br />Joel Ramos, Transportation & Land Use Coalition, addressed the City Council, <br />commenting on the TOD Strategy and its tremendous potential.
