DRAFT MINUTES Page 5 September 17, 2007 City of San Leandro City Council and San Leandro Redevelopment Agency Joint Meeting Craig Williams, Hayward Regional Democrats , addressed the City Council, commenting on the war in Iraq and the strong opposition to the U.S. presence in Iraq. Mr. Williams commented that approximately 160 cities have adopted resolutions supporting an end to the Iraq war. Mayor Santos noted that several speakers have indicated their desire to speak on the subject of the Iraq war. He indicated that the City Council has a policy of not taking positions on international affairs. Richard Becker, San Leandro resident , addressed the City Council, commenting on the war in Iraq. Mr. Becker urged the City Council to reconsider its policy of not dealing with international affairs, as the war affects San Leandro residents. Rev. Kathy Huff, San Leandro resident, addressed the City Council, commenting in support of a peaceful solution to the end of the war in Iraq. Rev. Huff commented on the social costs of the war, and urged the Council to consider adoption of a resolution to support an end to the Iraq war. Brenda Salgado, San Leandro resident , addressed the City Council, reading a draft resolutioning a Diplomatic copies of the resolution to the Council. Stephen Lee, pastor of Faith United Methodist Church, addressed the City Council, requesting that the Council consider adopting the resolution supporting the end to the Iraq War and commenting on the cost of the war in terms of dollars and lives. Richard Ellison, Citizens to Improve Burrell Field , addressed the City Council, commenting on a petition being circulated in the community which urges the City, San Leandro Unified School District, local businesses and citizens to work together in the development of Burrell Field into a new state-of-the-art facility. David Ellington, San Leandro resident , addressed the City Council, commenting on the need for improvements to Burrell Field and the importance of the field to the youth. Jamie McReynolds, San Leandro resident , addressed the City Council, speaking in favor of the Iraq resolution and requesting that the Council reconsider its policy regarding not taking positions on international issues. Harold Perez, San Leandro resident , addressed the City Council, commenting regarding tanker cars containing explosive substances which are parked on the railroad tracks behind his house, trucks parked on the , and MV Transportation diesel trucks idling in his neighborhood. Mr. Perez commented on the salaries made by MV Transportation workers, which he stated ng wage.
