SECTION 114 <br />STOP WORK ORDER <br />114.1 Authority. <br />Whenever the building official finds any work regulated by this code being performed in a <br />manner either contrary to the provisions of this code or dangerous or unsafe, the building official <br />is authorized to issue a stop work order. <br />114.2 Issuance. <br />The stop work order shall be in writing and shall be given to the owner of the property involved, <br />or to the owner's agent, ar to the person doing the work. Upon issuance of a stop work order, the <br />cited work shall immediately cease. The stop work order shall state the reason for the order, and <br />the conditions under which the cited work will be permitted to resume. <br />114.3 Unlawful continuance. <br />Any person who shall continue any work after having been served with a stop work order, except <br />such work as that person is directed to perform to remove a violation or unsafe condition, shall <br />be subject to penalties as prescribed by law. <br />SECTION 1 ] 5 <br />UNSAFE STRUCTURES AND EQUIPMENT <br />115.1 Conditions. <br />Structures or existing equipment that are or hereafter become unsafe, insanitary or deficient <br />because of inadequate means of egress facilities, inadequate light and ventilation, or which <br />constitute a fire hazard, or are otherwise dangerous to human life or the public welfare, or that <br />involve illegal or improper occupancy or inadequate maintenance, shall be deemed an unsafe <br />condition. Unsafe structures shall be taken down and removed or made safe, as the building <br />official deems necessary and as provided for in this section. A vacant structure that is not secured <br />against entry shall be deemed unsafe. <br />Section 7-5-] 30: PEDESTRIAN WALKWAYS OVER PUBLIC PROPERTY. Pedestrian <br />walkways over public property shall be subject to the approval of the City. Notwithstanding the <br />preceding sentence, sidewalk arcades on public property in an established redevelopment project <br />area need not be considered as adjacent buildings for the provisions of this Chapter, provided <br />that the arcades are of not less than one (1) hour fire resistive construction ar are constructed <br />entirely of noncombustible materials, fire retardant treated wood or heavy timber construction <br />with two-inch (2") nominal sheathing, or a combination of the above materials. <br />Section 7-5-135: ROOF COVERINGS. Section 1503 is hereby amended to read as follows: <br />Every new structure, and every existing structure when 50 percent or more of the total roof area <br />is reroofed within any one-year period, commencing any date on or after January 1, 1996 shall <br />have a minimum Class C fire retardant roof covering. <br />20 <br />
