DRAFT MINUTES Page 11 October 1, 2007 City of San Leandro City Council and San Leandro Redevelopment Agency Joint Meeting gratitude for the Yield to Pedestrians signs the City placed in front of their walkways. Councilmember Starosciak commented on a product called DuraTherm, which was used for the crosswalks on San Leandro Boulevard near BART. She noted that Hayward used its Safe Routes to Schools funding to put the product in the crosswalks near schools. Councilmember Stephens commented that many of the problems brought up this evening, including rising bay waters, tree preservation, traffic, the high cost and lack of housing, and landfill problems, are all systemic problems of increased global population. Councilmember Prola commented that he attended the Senior Resource Fair and the Leadership San Leandro orientation. Councilmember Prola commented that Leadership San Leandro is very proud of three of its graduates: Michael Gregory, Diana Souza and Bill Stephens. He noted that the program encourages individuals to fill out applications for the boards and commissions, and he encouraged interested audience members to do the same. Mayor Santos commented that he attended a at which Elizabeth Edwards was the guest speaker. Mayor Santos commented that some members of the San Leandro School Board have suggested holding a joint meeting between the two City and School Board Liaison Committees. He indicated that the City Manager is discussing the idea with the two school district superintendents to see if a joint meeting could adjourned in memory Tiny Thomas, who was a partner in the Lasley Truck Stop and member of the San Leandro Rotary Club. 13.
