MINUTES Page 11 <br />City of San Leandro City Council and San Leandro Redevelopment Agency Joint Meeting-October 1, 2007 <br />gratitude for the Yield to Pedestrians signs the City placed in front of their walkways. <br />Councilmember Starosciak commented on a product called DuraTherm, which was used for <br />the crosswalks on San Leandro Boulevard near BART. She noted that Hayward used its Safe <br />Routes to Schools funding to put the product in the crosswalks near schools. <br />Councilmember Stephens commented that many of the problems brought up this evening, <br />including rising bay waters, tree preservation, traffic, the high cost and lack of housing, and <br />landfill problems, are all systemic problems of increased global population. <br />Councilmember Prola commented that he attended the Senior Resource Fair and the <br />Leadership San Leandro orientation. Councihnember Prola commented that Leadership San <br />Leandro is very proud of three of its graduates: Michael Gregory, Diana Souza and Bill <br />Stephens. He noted that the program encourages individuals to fill out applications for the <br />City's boards and commissions, and he encouraged interested audience members to do the <br />same. <br />Mayor Santos commented that he attended a fundraiser at George Mark Children's House at <br />which Elizabeth Edwards was the guest speaker. Mayor Santos commented that some <br />members of the San Leandro School Board have suggested holding a joint meeting between <br />the two City and School Board Liaison Committees. He indicated that the City Manager is <br />discussing the idea with the two school district superintendents to see if a joint meeting could <br />be arranged. Mayor Santos announced that tonight's meeting would be adjourned in memory <br />of Hulon "Tiny" Thomas, who was a partner in the Lasley Truck Stop and member of the San <br />Leandro Rotary Club. <br />13.
