John stated that there is no solution as of yet and no suggestions. The project was <br />presented at this meeting to provide information. Staff will update the Committee again <br />at a later date. <br />3. Discussion Regarding Water Pollution Control Plant Co -Generation <br />John Jermanis briefly explained that the Public Works and Engineering and <br />Transportation Departments are collaboratively working to help reduce our `carbon <br />footprint'. <br />Mike Bakaldin gave a PowerPoint presentation regarding the Water Pollution Control <br />Plant (WPCP) Co -Generation project. The project entails the design and construction of <br />a co -generation plant at the WPCP, using the excess methane gas generated at the WPCP <br />as an energy source. The electric energy generated through co -generation will be used at <br />the WPCP to reduce dependence on PG&E, thus reducing both the cost to the City and <br />the impact on the environment. Uche stated that both the Engineering and Transportation <br />and Public Works Departments participated in the selection process to determine who <br />was best qualified to perform the work. A Request for Proposal was sent to four <br />qualified firms. Siemens Building Technology, Inc. was the best qualified. <br />A discussion ensued regarding the power generated and who would benefit from this <br />power. John explained how the WPCP would use the generated power. John suggested <br />that the Committee support this proposition and forward a recommendation to the full <br />Council. <br />Recommendation: Committee recommended moving forward with the project as <br />presented. <br />4.
