MINUTES Page 12 Ciry of San Leandro City Council, San Leandro Economic Development Agency and San Leandro Redevelopment Agency Joint Meeting November 5, 2007 By consensus, the City Council approved this recommendation. 12. CITY COUNCIL COMMENTS Councilmember Prola commented that at the EBDA meeting, he asked for and received clarification regarding a 2005 violation for coliform. There were two violations by the Oro Loma Sanitary District in 2005, and no violations have occurred since. Councilmember Prola commented that global warming is increasing faster than anyone had predicted. He agreed with Mayor Santos that we need to reduce our driving, work on our TOD strategy, and make mass transit more plentiful, convenient, and cheap. Councilmember Prola commented on the request by Washington Manor Junior League, and he stated that he would join with Councilmember Starosciak in requesting the necessary improvements at Stenzel Park. Councilmember Starosciak submitted 500 petition signatures requesting improvements at Stenzel Park. She commented that there was an Eden HospitaUSan Leandro Hospital presentation at the San Leandro Library this evening, which none of the Councilmembers could attend. Councilmember Starosciak noted that while Eden has met with the Councilmembers individually, the Council as a whole has not had the opportunity to address the issue. She asked if the Council could hold a work session to have Eden Hospital give a presentation on their plans for San Leandro. Councilmember Starosciak requested that tonight's meeting be adjourned in memory of Joseph Gancos, who was the first City Councilmember to represent the Washington Manor area, and who was instrumental in bringing the Fargo Senior Center to reality. Councilmember Souza commented that she briefly attended tonight's Eden Hospital meeting at the Library, and there were about 70 people in attendance at the time. She acknowledged the retirement of Cheryl Cardin, Administrative Assistant in the Recreation and Human Services Department, who also provided administrative support to the Recreation and Parks Commission. Councilmember Souza attended a very successful Halloween event at the Washington Manor Library. Councilmember Souza also attended the Senior Fall Faire, and she commented that the ROP students made and. served the food and the Arroyo High School Band provided the entertainment. She expressed appreciation to Fire Chief Gilbert for his letter regarding the Alameda County firefighters that were deployed to fight the Southern California fires. Councilmember Souza commented that the dedication of the Public Safety Monument was a wonderful event. She concurred with the need for the facility improvements at Stenzel Park. Councilmember Gregory thanked Fire Chief Gilbert for the mutual aid response to the Southern California fires, and he noted that it underscored the need for radio communication interoperability. Councilmember Gregory commented that the hospital meetings have been awkward, and he urged Mayor Santos and Vice Mayor Grant to take the lead along with Senator Corbett and Assemblymember Hayashi to forestall the closure of San Leandro Hospital. Councilmember Gregory commented on some good news received last week about a grant opportunity for Shape Up San Leandro. He will report developments as they occur.
