MINUTES Page 12 <br />Ciry of San Leandro City Council, San Leandro Economic Development Agency and San Leandro Redevelopment <br />Agency Joint Meeting November 5, 2007 <br />By consensus, the City Council approved this recommendation. <br />12. CITY COUNCIL COMMENTS <br />Councilmember Prola commented that at the EBDA meeting, he asked for and received <br />clarification regarding a 2005 violation for coliform. There were two violations by the Oro <br />Loma Sanitary District in 2005, and no violations have occurred since. Councilmember Prola <br />commented that global warming is increasing faster than anyone had predicted. He agreed <br />with Mayor Santos that we need to reduce our driving, work on our TOD strategy, and make <br />mass transit more plentiful, convenient, and cheap. Councilmember Prola commented on the <br />request by Washington Manor Junior League, and he stated that he would join with <br />Councilmember Starosciak in requesting the necessary improvements at Stenzel Park. <br />Councilmember Starosciak submitted 500 petition signatures requesting improvements at <br />Stenzel Park. She commented that there was an Eden HospitaUSan Leandro Hospital <br />presentation at the San Leandro Library this evening, which none of the Councilmembers <br />could attend. Councilmember Starosciak noted that while Eden has met with the <br />Councilmembers individually, the Council as a whole has not had the opportunity to address <br />the issue. She asked if the Council could hold a work session to have Eden Hospital give a <br />presentation on their plans for San Leandro. Councilmember Starosciak requested that <br />tonight's meeting be adjourned in memory of Joseph Gancos, who was the first City <br />Councilmember to represent the Washington Manor area, and who was instrumental in <br />bringing the Fargo Senior Center to reality. <br />Councilmember Souza commented that she briefly attended tonight's Eden Hospital meeting <br />at the Library, and there were about 70 people in attendance at the time. She acknowledged <br />the retirement of Cheryl Cardin, Administrative Assistant in the Recreation and Human <br />Services Department, who also provided administrative support to the Recreation and Parks <br />Commission. Councilmember Souza attended a very successful Halloween event at the <br />Washington Manor Library. Councilmember Souza also attended the Senior Fall Faire, and <br />she commented that the ROP students made and. served the food and the Arroyo High School <br />Band provided the entertainment. She expressed appreciation to Fire Chief Gilbert for his <br />letter regarding the Alameda County firefighters that were deployed to fight the Southern <br />California fires. Councilmember Souza commented that the dedication of the Public Safety <br />Monument was a wonderful event. She concurred with the need for the facility improvements <br />at Stenzel Park. <br />Councilmember Gregory thanked Fire Chief Gilbert for the mutual aid response to the <br />Southern California fires, and he noted that it underscored the need for radio communication <br />interoperability. Councilmember Gregory commented that the hospital meetings have been <br />awkward, and he urged Mayor Santos and Vice Mayor Grant to take the lead along with <br />Senator Corbett and Assemblymember Hayashi to forestall the closure of San Leandro <br />Hospital. Councilmember Gregory commented on some good news received last week about <br />a grant opportunity for Shape Up San Leandro. He will report developments as they occur. <br />
