Rules and Communications Committee <br />January 3, 2008 <br />Page 2 <br />commented that the electorate may not have been aware of the issues involved in runoff <br />elections. The Committee discussed the pros and cons of majority and plurality elections and of <br />going back to the voters with the question of whether to return to plurality elections. <br />Committee Members Souza and Stephens favored holding the general election in June, citing the <br />lack of a certified IRV system to conduct the election in November. Chair Santos concurred, <br />commenting that at this time, there is no other choice. <br />Committee Recommendation: <br />The Committee recommends that the City Council call for the City's General Municipal <br />Election to be held on June 3, 2008, and hold any ensuing runoff election on November 4, <br />2008. <br />2. Public Comments <br />None. <br />3. Committee Member Comments <br />None. <br />4. Adjourn <br />The meeting was adjourned at 4:40 p.m. <br />
