CITY OF SAN LEANDRO <br />STAFF REPORT <br />DATE: February 4, 2008 <br />TO: John Jermanis, City Manager <br />FROM: Steve Hollister~'~sistant City Manager <br />APPROVED AND <br />FORWARDED <br />TO CITY COUNCIL <br />r~ <br />,_ <br />John, ermanis <br />Cityanager <br />BY: Jacquelyn Diaz, Assistant to the City Manager <br />SUBJECT PROJECT/PROJECT DESCRIPTION: <br />CITY COUNCIL REVIEW AND SELECTION OF THREE PROJECTS FOR <br />PRESENTATION TO THE CITY'S CONGRESSIONAL REPRESENTATIVES DURING <br />THE MARCH NATIONAL LEAGUE OF CITIES CONFERENCE IN WASHINGTON D.C. <br />FOR INCLUSION IN THE FEDERAL FISCAL YEAR 2009 BUDGET. <br />SUMMARY AND RECOMMENDATION <br />It is recommended that the City Council choose no more than three projects for presentation to <br />the City's congressional representatives for inclusion in the Federal FY 2009 Budget. <br />BACKGROUND <br />Annually, City Council Members travel to Washington, D.C. during the National League of <br />Cities conference and lobby congressional delegates to include City projects for funding in the <br />federal budget for the upcoming year. This process, coordinated by the City's Federal Relations <br />Representative Len Simon, includes meetings with Senators, Representatives and staff with <br />presentation of written material in support of the City's selected projects. These efforts have <br />proven successful with recent partially funded projects including Marina dredging, East 14"' <br />Street improvements, the Davis/880 Interchange and the Senior Center. A copy of "San <br />Leandro Appropriations History FY 2000-FY2008" is attached to this report. <br />The following projects, based on input from Council members, staff and Len Simon, are <br />presented for City Council consideration: <br />Senior Center - $13 million project (building); $100,000 allocated FY 04 (Stark); $245,000 <br />allocated FY 08 (Stark); Request $12 million FY 09. <br />East 14t~ Street Improvements - $3.9 million Phase I project; $350,000 allocated FY 06 <br />(Stark); $200,000 earmark FY 07 (Stark) eliminated; no funds received FY 08; Request $3 <br />million FY 09. <br />Marina Boulevard/880 Interchange - $25 million project ($2.5 million for design); no previous <br />allocation; Request $20 million FY 09. <br />
