and staff that expanding its role in creating and supporting permanent supportive housing must become the <br />core initiative of this agency. <br />For the past twenty years, Building Futures has developed expertise and leadership in serving the <br />homeless. Thus far, BFWC has served primarily as emergency shelter providers. Having operated one <br />permanent housing program since 2002, BFWC knows it needs to do more. BFWC faces the need to re- <br />tool the organization and find development partners who can help build and operate more supportive <br />housing for Alameda County's most vulnerable populations. <br />Purpose <br />To research, design and implement innovative programs and policies by increasing BFWC's capacity to <br />end homelessness and domestic violence in partnership with local jurisdictions and non-profits and aligned <br />with emerging best practices in the external environment. <br />OUTCOMES; <br />Partnering with City of San Leandro <br />BFWC will support the City of San Leandro in developing its local implementation plan for Everyone Home <br />by: <br />1. Facilitating/co-facilitating a minimum of two community meetings to gather input about the draft <br />local homeless prevention plan; <br />2. Recommending one to two homeless program models that are likely to work well in San Leandro; <br />3. Assisting with adoption and implementation of the City's 10-year local homeless prevention plan; <br />and, <br />4. Educating City Council members, boards/commissions (e.g., the Human Services Commission), <br />and the general public about the City's local homeless prevention plan. BFWC hopes to hold one <br />meeting with each group, but this depends upon the progress of BFWC's process in one year. <br />Technical Assistance Request <br />In response to this changing environment, Building Futures has developed Projecf Open Doors, a new <br />initiative designed to increase the agency's capacity to end homelessness and domestic violence in <br />partnership with local jurisdictions and non-profits, and to align Building Futures' programs with emerging <br />best practices in the fields of supportive housing. The capacity building we are seeking can be broken <br />down into two segments: <br />Resolve Programmatic Directions <br />Determine overall strategy for expanding Building Futures' role in permanent supportive housing and <br />aligning our work with the implementation of Everyone Home.
