DRAFT MINUTES <br /> Page 10 <br />February 19, 2008 <br />City of San Leandro City Council and San Leandro Redevelopment Agency Joint Meeting <br /> <br /> <br />Director Uche Udemezue will be prepared to address the alternatives at the Facilities <br />Committee meeting. <br /> <br />Councilmember Starosciak requested thadjourned in memory of Tony <br />Sanzo, a Pearl Harbor survivor and active member of Mission Bay. Councilmember <br />Starosciak commented that she attended a recent meeting of the Washington Manor <br />Homeowners Association, which was very well attended. The Homeowners Association will <br />cosponsor the celebration of the one year anniversary of the Washington Manor Branch <br />Library. Councilmember Starosciak commented that she met with the four District 4 Youth <br />Advisory Commissioners, and they shared with her their conversation with the Recreation and <br />Parks Commission about finding activities for teens and youth, such as indoor rock climbing <br />or laser tag. Councilmember Starosciak stated that she would like to see a Strategic Plan <br />developed for the Police Department. <br /> <br />Councilmember Stephens expressed support for Councilmember for <br />requesting that Comcast underground its cables. <br /> <br />Councilmember Prola commented that he toured a safe house run by Building Futures with <br />Women and Children, and is very impressed with the organization and its work. <br />Councilmember Prola attended a celebration of the Lunar New Year at the Main Library on <br />February 9. He thanked Mr. Udemezue and Keith Cooke from the Engineering and <br />Transportation Department for the stop signs at Lucille and Preda Streets that were approved <br />tonight, noting that he has received several calls from residents in that neighborhood about the <br />traffic problemsdjourned in <br />memory of Gerald Sheehan, who was his neighbor for over 30 years. <br /> <br />Mayor Santos announced that he is forming an ad hoc committee comprised of Vice Mayor <br />Grant and Councilmembers Starosciak and Gregory. Mayor Santos stated that the ad hoc <br />committee should address the following matters: the budget shortfall; funding for the <br />construction of the Senior Center; a Public Safety building, and possibly a joint Police and <br />Fire facility; street and pavement repairs; and additional police personnel. <br /> <br />Vice Mayor Grant asked whether an ad hoc committee is necessary, and if perhaps the <br />Finance Committee could address these matters. Mayor Santos indicated that some of the <br />issues would be outside the purview of the Finance Committee. He cautioned the ad hoc <br />committee members not to share their discussions with the other members of the Council. <br /> <br />Mayor Santos stated that he would adjourn in memory of Gerald Sheehan; <br />; the Kirkwood, Colorado, City Council members; and Army <br />Specialist Michael Manibog, a San Leandro High School graduate who was killed in Iraq. <br />announced that the flags at City facilities will fly at half staff this week. <br /> <br /> <br />13.
