Reports on Empowerment Funds <br /> <br />Councilmember Starosciak reported that she requested $100 from her Community <br />Empowerment Funds be given to the Asian Community Cultural Association to start a <br />pen-pal program at Arroyo High School. <br /> <br />Councilmember Gregory requested to add the Interfaith Homeless Network to the list of <br />eligible recipients for Community Empowerment Funds for the April Showers program. <br /> <br />Mayor Santos requested to add the Pets of the Homeless program at McKinley <br />Elementary School to the list of eligible recipients for Community Empowerment <br />Funds. <br /> <br />D. Reports on City Council Committees <br /> <br />1. City and San Lorenzo Unified School District Liaison Committee Meeting of <br />Accepted as submitted. <br />February 28, 2008. <br /> <br />Councilmember Souza inquired on the status of the internship opportunities. Mr. <br />Jermanis indicated that he has not yet received information from the District. <br /> <br />Mayor Santos commented that he sent a letter to Governor Schwarzenegger, with <br />copies to San supporting San Lorenzo School <br />resolution on the statewide budget cuts to education, and asked if there was <br />consensus of the Council to do so. Councilmember Starosciak commented that <br />she thought the Council had a policy prohibiting such an action. Mr. Jermanis <br />stated that the general policy of the Council relates to restrictions on taking <br />positions on ballot measures. Councilmember Souza suggested that the resolution <br />mention both school districts. <br /> <br />2. Facilities and Transportation Committee Meeting of February 21, 2008. <br />Accepted as submitted. <br /> <br /> <br />Councilmember Prola agreed with Councilmember Starosciak about the ugly <br />power lines, and thanked her for the presentation. He remarked that the height of <br />the lines should be regulated so that trucks have clearance and traffic signals are <br />not blocked. <br /> <br />Councilmember Souza noted that at the meeting, it was discussed that AT&T <br />would need permits if they blocked the streets. Mr. Jermanis commented that <br />AT&T has requested a number of permits for its Project Lightspeed installations. <br /> <br />Councilmember Starosciak asked at what meeting Comcast and AT&T will be <br />attending. Mr. Jermanis indicated that Comcast will attend the next Facilities and <br />Transportation Committee meeting, and AT&T will attend at a later date to <br />discuss the overhead wires that have been installed throughout the City. <br /> <br />
