MINUTES Page 10 <br />City of San Leandro City Council and San Leandro Redevelopment Agency Joint Meeting-March 17, 2008 <br />Councilmember Starosciak commented on the lack of local control over the <br />installation of the cables and canisters, which contributes to blight. <br />12. CITY COUNCIL COMMENTS <br />Councilmember Gregory requested that tonight's meeting be adjourned in memory of Kristy <br />Gough, an inspiring Olympian who was struck and killed while bicycling by a Santa Clara <br />County Sheriff's Deputy. Councilmember Gregory reminded the City Council about the <br />upcoming Urban Habitat's Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) tour of East Bay cities on <br />Saturday, April 12. He commented on the federal Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block <br />Grant, for which he feels San Leandro is in a position to be funded. <br />Vice Mayor Grant commented on Wa1Mart's pledge not to sell hard liquor, firearms and <br />groceries. Mr. Jermanis indicated that there is a document which contains this information, <br />and staff will provide it to the Council. <br />Councilmember Souza requested recognition for the passing of Bill Perras, former Recreation <br />and Parks Commissioner. Councilmember Souza requested information regarding billboards, <br />such as where they can be located and if their content is regulated. <br />Councilmember Starosciak commented that she attended the Washington Manor <br />Homeowners Association meeting. Traffic Officer Jeff Agraviador and Community <br />Compliance Officer Lisa Agraviador provided information and responded to questions at the <br />meeting. Councilmember Starosciak announced that there will be two baseball parades on <br />March 29, and requested assistance from the Mayor to provide Council representation. <br />Councilmember Stephens commented that he attended the Broadmoor Homeowners <br />Association meeting which was attended by Police Chief Attarian and Community <br />Compliance Officer Agraviador. He also represented the Council at the flag-raising for <br />Portuguese Immigration Week on Sunday, March 9. <br />Councilmember Prola commented that he attended the Police Officers Award Lunch on <br />March 5, at which the automated license plate reader system was discussed. Councilmember <br />Prola attended the March 13 San Leandro School Board meeting, and noted the severe fiscal <br />problems that the District is facing. He attended Congressman Pete Stark's Town Hall <br />meeting, at which Congressman Stark gave a passionate appeal to keep the federal earmarks. <br />Councilmember Prola expressed concern regarding Wa1Mart's pledge not to sell hard liquor, <br />and he suggested that the transcripts of the meeting be reviewed for comparison to what the <br />City has in writing. <br />Mayor Santos thanked Councihnember Stephens for attending the Portuguese Immigration <br />Week ceremony on his behalf. Mayor Santos commented that he also attended Congressman <br />Stark's Town Hall meeting and Little League Opening Day on Saturday, and the Old Timers' <br />League Opening Day on Sunday. He commented on the opposition by several cities to the <br />California Farm Bureau's proposed spraying for the light brown apple moth. Mr. Jermanis <br />noted that no spraying is planned for San Leandro. <br />
