The goals were discussed and refined
at the Council Retreat in February 2008. Subsequent input was obtained and incorporated into
the documents; the final drafts were distributed on March 27 with few additional comments
received.
The Council Goals and the Vision Statement are intended to be working documents; they can be
refined, evaluated and changed each year or as circumstances occur. Staff requests adoption by
the City Council in order to include the goals and vision statement in the 2008-09 draft budget
document and development process. Departments will have the opportunity to respond to the
Council goals during the next year. In future years, the department narratives will reflect the
Council goals, with individual department goals and accomplishments reflecting and supporting
the Cotmcil's direction.
BACKGROUND
The draft 2008-09 City Council Goals and Vision Statement were a product of the Council
Retreat held in February. Previous Council's have developed a list of Priorities in order to
provide direction to staff. Upon adoption, the goals will provide departments and staff the
direction for the next fiscal year's priorities. The last City Council Vision Statement was
adopted in 1998. The draft provided was developed in an effort to coordinate the goals and
priorities with overarching themes. The values listed were developed at a previous Council
retreat and coordinated with this draft document. Both documents are intended to be working
documents which can be changed in order to reflect direction by both the Council and the
community.
