MINUTES Page 12 <br />City of San Leandro City Council, San Leandro Economic Development Agency, and San Leandro Redevelopment <br />Agency Joint Meeting-April 21, 2008 <br />Councilmember Souza reported that she also attended Legislative Action Days, at which <br />there was much discussion about the budget crisis. She and Vice Mayor Grant met with <br />Assemblymember Hayashi. Councilmember Souza stated that she would like the <br />Council to continue looking into hiring a State lobbyist. She passed information on <br />revenue generating ideas to Councilmember Starosciak, as she is a member of the ad <br />hoc committee. <br />Vice Mayor Grant noted that she and Councilmember Souza were able to meet with <br />Assemblymember Hayashi exclusively for 20-30 minutes before the rest of the East Bay <br />delegation joined them. <br />C. Reports on Empowerment Funds <br />Councilmember Souza reported that she contributed $200 from her Community <br />Empowerment Funds to the Arroyo High School Swim Team, $200 to the Arroyo High <br />School DECA program, $300 to Building Futures with Women and Children, and $300 <br />to Building Futures with Women and Children for the April Showers program. <br />Councilmember Souza requested that Citizens for a Safer San Leandro be added to the <br />list of eligible recipients for Community Empowerment Funds. <br />Vice Mayor Grant asked if the Community Empowerment funds carry over from year to <br />year. Mr. Jermanis replied that the Funds do not carry over. <br />D. Reports on City Council Committees <br />1. Facilities and Transportation Committee Meeting of March 25, 2008. Accepted <br />as submitted. <br />Councilmember Prola commended Planner III Sally Barron for bringing forward <br />the Green Building Ordinance. He commented that he would like to see the City <br />try to achieve the Silver LEED standard for the Senior Center, and someday <br />achieve a Gold standard for future City buildings. <br />Mayor Santos commented that the City should develop a plan for using solar <br />technology. He announced that a local auto dealership will be lending him an <br />electric car to test drive tomorrow, and an electric car dealership will be opening <br />in San Leandro on June 1. <br />Councilmember Starosciak commented that the tree at the corner of Wengate and <br />Manor is still supporting a utility line, even though she was told by AT&T that the <br />situation was temporary. She is now being told that the line will be removed from <br />the tree by May 30. <br />Councilmember Souza commented on the difficulty in getting answers to the <br />questions that the Facilities and Transportation Committee has asked of AT&T. <br />
