Resolution No. 2008-012 RDA, Resolution of the Redevelopment Agency of the City <br />of San Leandro Authorizing the Executive Director to Enter into a Consulting Services <br />Agreement with Pacific Coast Farmers' Market Association for Management of a <br />Seasonal Downtown Farmers' Market (provides for operation of a downtown farmers' <br />market for athree-year period). Cost: $26,000. Funding: Joint Redevelopment Project <br />Area Fund. (2323) <br />Mr. Jermanis gave a brief background on the matter and introduced Assistant to the City <br />Manager Cynthia Battenberg. Ms. Battenberg gave a short PowerPoint presentation, <br />describing the marketing efforts for Downtown San Leandro and the agreement with <br />Pacific Coast Farmers' Market Association for the proposed Farmers' Market on Parrott <br />Street between East 14th Street and Washington Avenue on Wednesdays from May- <br />October. Ms. Battenberg described the proposed advertising campaign for the farmers' <br />market and the notices to the nearby businesses and the public to inform them of the <br />coming event. <br />Councilmember Prola suggested doing advertising at the BART station to attract <br />commuters to the farmers' market. <br />Vice Mayor Grant asked how the City will measure the success of the farmers' market. <br />Ms. Battenberg replied that success could be gauged by the number of participating <br />vendors and visitors to the market. Vice Mayor Grant inquired about parking for, and <br />access to, local businesses on the day of the market. Ms. Battenberg indicated that the <br />vendor booths will be located in the middle of the street, which will leave the sidewalks <br />open for access to the nearby businesses. <br />Councilmember Gregory suggested contacting BART Director Bob Franklin for <br />assistance with advertising at the BART stations. He stated that he is looking forward <br />to the Cherry Festival and the marketing for that event. Councilmember Gregory <br />commented on Kaiser Permanente's participation in local farmers' markets. <br />
