• Downtown TOD Strategy Citizen Advisory Committee Meeting January 24, 2006 What interests or concerns motivated you to apply to be on the Citizen Advisory Committee? Downtown Livability/Pedestrian & Transit Improvements • Promote and improve public transportation (BART and buses.) (3 comments) • Make the downtown more walkable and safe. • Improve the livability of the downtown area. • Promote recreational opportunities, such as walking, and community space for recreation. • Make the downtown more pedestrian-friendly. • Improve the area for walking, biking, and for buses. • Make the downtown more family friendly. • It feels like we are second-class citizens to the auto; make the downtown a place people want to walk to and hang out at. • Cleaning up the downtown and bringing people to the area will improve safety. • I'm concerned with safety at the BART station. Development • I'm a proponent oftransit-oriented development. • The downtown provides a good opportunity for affordable housing. • Make better use of vacant and under-utilized land, such as for housing, and coordinate development with transit improvements. • Some changes have been good, and some have been bad. • I would like to see mixed use development. • I want to see wonderful architectural designs. • We should consider doing some of the same types of projects that were recently built in downtown Oakland and at the El Cerrito BART station. • We need more affordable housing in the community. • I support downtown and infill development. • Link the planning to the East 14`h Street South Area Development Strategy. • Why is the center of the study area at Davis/East 14`h instead of BART? The development potential is at the BART station. Shopping • We need more diverse restaurants and retail stores in the downtown. • Provide better opportunities for residents to shop locally. • Concerned that Trader Joe's did not decide to locate in San Leandro.
